Miss Roses Cabled Blanket

(This is a free pa ttern Please use and enjoy, but only for personal use! Thanks!)

I adapted the cable sections from here. This suited my purposes, but you can use whatever cable pattern that works for you.

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft ~ 1 skein each of 6 Assorted Colors Satin fabric Batting (I recycled an old blanket, but any batting would work.)

Needles: Size 8 (5mm) (I used circular, but use what youre comfy with) Tools/Notions: cable needle, row counter, tapestry needle, notions for sewing Notes: This pattern is worked in multiples of 15, but can be adapted to any size. There are six columns of colored blocks connected by mattress stitch. I planned my blanket to have one block of each color in each column and row (what a Sudoku puzzle that was!). I thought this would make for an attractive design.

Abbreviations: k: knit p: purl cn: cable needle

RS: right side of work WS: wrong side of work

Directions:
Stockinette Column (make 2) Cast on 30 stitches (long-tail cast on.) Knit 30 rows in stockinette (knit 1 row (RS), purl 1 row (WS)) Switch to next color (cut the ending colors yarn free you wont need it until the next column) and knit another block of 30 stockinette rows. o Repeat this step until you have 6 blocks of stockinette. Bind off, leaving a long tail for mattress stitch later.

Cabled Column (make 4) Cast on 30 stitched (long-tail cast on.) Knit 30 rows in stockinette. Switch to next color and follow cabled pattern (again, taken from here and adapted to 30 stitches): o Row 1 & 5 (RS): p3, k9, p6, k9, p3 o Row 2, 4, 6 & 8 (WS): k3, p9, k6, p9, k3 o Row 3: *p3, slip next 3 stitches onto cable needle in front, k3, k3 from cable needle, k3, p3 ~ repeat from *. o Row 7: *p3, k3, slip next 3 stitches onto cable needle in back, k3, k3 from cable needle, p3 ~ repeat from * o Repeat rows 1-8 for 30 rows (this wont work out evenly, but when I got to 30 rows I attached the next color and continued with this 8 row pattern ~ make sure you write down where you are in the pattern!) Make 4 cabled blocks of 30 rows. Switch color, knit 30 rows of stockinette. Bind off, leaving a long tail. Assembly of knitted pieces: Block all your pieces (or youll be continually unrolling!) Lay all the columns out the way you want them to look. Attach pieces using mattress stitch. Weave in ends.

Finishing: I attached my knitted front to an old blanket that was approximately the same size by sewing the knit and blanket together. Using a large single piece of satin, ($1/yd!) I centered the knit piece and created a border. I had some issues with pieces fitting together properly, but I just fudged it as much as needed. After many pins and problems with corners, I sewed the knit, blanket and satin together.

She loves it! I hope you do too!
