1 ADX Memory Aid

(December 18, 2011) * The following tips and shortcuts are for memorizing many, though NOT ALL, of the numerical answers for the test. These sheets do not come close to covering all the questions that will be on your FAA exam, so study all of the Selected Questions in the Flight Test software. You may want to look this study aid over a couple of times before you begin studying with the Flight Test software so you know whats in it. It's broken down into the Knowledge Categories you'll be studying in the software. * There are several tables in these sheets that identify the correct answer by LOW, MID, or HIGH this means the correct answer is the LOWEST of the 3 numerical choices, the MIDDLE of the 3 numerical choices, or the HIGHEST of the 3 numerical choices it's often easier to remember where the correct lies numerically with respect to the other two choices than to remember the exact number itself. * Most of the following tips were provided to Sheppard Air by, and offered for download free with the permission of, the original author and many Sheppard Air subscribers. On behalf of all those studying for the ATP written, wed like to offer all the contributors a sincere Thank You for making this handout possible. We (Sheppard Air) have attempted to verify that all the memorization tips are correct, but neither Sheppard Air nor the contributors offer any guarantee as to their accuracy. ADX INFO: DO NOT memorize the A, B, or C answer location only --- these are randomized on the exam. Sign up for the ADX test code at the testing center. Throughout these sheets, words and/or answers are BOLDED to help recognition.

Pallet calculations: For the questions that ask, "What is the maximum allowable weight carried on a pallet": If the answer choices are all greater than 1000, then the correct answer is LOW except for 1611.6 pounds If the answer choices are all less than 1000, then the correct answer is MID For the questions that ask, "What is the minimum floor load limit carry the following pallet": The answers are: 115, 144, 76, 175, 183 Here are the two equations for calculating either the Max Weight on Pallet or Min Floor Load Limit Wt on pallet = ((area/144) * Floor load limit) wt of pallet wt of tiedown or the same equation re-arranged: Floor load limit = (Wt on pallet + wt of pallet + wt of tiedown) * 144 / area of pallet

Wt shift/CG calculations: Memorize the grid below for initial operating conditions! To correctly choose the LOW, MID, and HIGH answers as indicated in this table, you must DISREGARD the plus (+) or minus (-) signs of the answer choices on the questions.
