CONCRETE MANHOLES = IDEAL SEWER SYSTEM Meyer's POLYCRETE system manholes are made up of quartz aggregate and polyester resin. The resin is the binding material. Cement and water are not used. Cement in concrete pipes is destroyed by sulfuric acid (H2SO4). Only the aggregate remains. Polymer concrete pipe and manholes do not contain cement therefore; there is no pipe corrosion. The material properties and pipe sizes are specified in German standard DIN 54815-1 and DIN 54815-2. The most common name for the material is Polymer Concrete, or Polyester Resin Concrete (PRC). The molding material complies with DIN 16946, part 2, and type 1140. The intrinsic bond of resin and aggregate allows the manholes to withstand very high compressive and bending loads with thinner walls and reduced pipe weight compared to concrete manholes. The result is lower freight and installation costs. 2
The polyester resin is chemically resistant in continuous service of effluents between pH =1.0 and pH=12.0.

upper section of very deep DN 1200 and DN 1500 manholes is usually reduced to diameter DN 1000 using a diameter reduction cone to connect to the DN 1200 or DN 1500 manhole.
Additional benefits:
Additional buoyancy protection if required. Reduced labor and equipment costs due to quick easy
handling and installation.

READY-TO-CONNECT, CUSTOMIZED MANHOLES: Meyer uses the manhole bottom, manhole pipes and connections including commercial components (bells, sockets, etc.) to make a monolithic manhole according to customer specifications. The jointless manhole wall allows connections of any height. Large differences in invert levels, drop-offs, function elements such as slide valves or for double pipelines in water protection areas can be built in the manhole. For narrow pits required with pipe jacking or microtunneling the manhole can be delivered in two parts. We offer a DN 1000 Polymer Concrete manhole shaft and cover or diameter reduction slabs for all other diameters. JOINTLESS STEP AND CHANNEL: The basic concrete profile of the step and channel is furnished with jointless polyester resin concrete screed. This PRC screed is as corrosion-proof as the manhole wall. It is also impact and wear-resistant. Its smooth surface facilitates easy flow and cleaning in the channel, and it may be roughened in the step section if required.

P O LY C R E T E D E - P R E S S U R I Z AT I O N M A N H O L E S An anaerobic environment creates hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S) in sewers. These conditions occur in large diameter gravity sewers with little gradient in which the sewage stays for a long time. The result is corrosion by sulfuric acid (H2SO4), which is released and attacks concrete surfaces above the water level. Where force mains enter gravity sewers large quantities of hydrogen sulfide dissolved in the sewage are released. This is where corrosion prevention becomes a real challenge. POLYCRETE manhole systems made of corrosion resistant polymer concrete withstand this attack and are therefore increasingly used as de-pressurization manholes. Since the downstream sections of the gravity sewer are also exposed to stronger sulfuric acid attack, we recommend the use of acid resistant Polymer Concrete Pipes.
P O LY C R E T E P U M P S H A F T S The situation is similar with pump shafts. Sewage entry from gravity sewers in some cases lead to higher corrosion risks. Most pump shafts are installed very deep underground (to create collection volume below the inlet level). Therefore costly ground water lowering systems have to be employed for the installation process. The jointless design and the onsite delivery result in significant construction savings. The risk of leaks in connecting joints is eliminated. POLYCRETE pump shafts can also be installed by the caisson method. The use of a prefabricated polymer concrete shaft bottom providing collection volume without material settling ensures complete corrosion protection for such a structure.
