Louth County Show

Cian OConnor on his own horse Larkhill Cruiser on their way to winning the 2011 Horseware Premier Grand Prix at the Horseware Louth County Show. The 2012 Showjumping Ireland Premier Series gets underway later this month with the opening round taking place at the annual Horseware Louth County Show in Dundalk on the 27th, 28th and 29 th of April 2012. As in previous years, it is expected that many of our top riders will use this weekend as a warm up for future International events. Former winners in the series, include top names such as Stephen Smith, Cian O Connor and Harry Marshall. The show which is held by kind permission of Tom McGuinness, Horseware Ireland, and will take place on his grounds at the Circle T Ranch in Dromiskin. Now in its eleventh year this annual event has grown from strength to strength, and its success has meant that over 120,000 has gone to well deserving charities in the area. This year the Show will run over three days. On Friday there will be two horse arenas with the 1.30(S) Leinster Summer Tour Grand Prix. Saturdays event to watch will undoubtedly be the 3,000 qualifying class which acts as a qualifier for Sundays feature event, The Horseware Premier Series Grand Prix, boasting a lucrative prize fund of 12,000. In a change from last years format, the Horseware Premier Grand Prix Series will see the top 30 Horse/Rider combinations qualifying from the 1.40 class on Saturday to the Premier Series Grand Prix. There is a full schedule of events over the course of the weekend, which includes classes for horses, ponies and amateur riders. Among the list of league classes scheduled over the three days, is the popular Amateurs (Dingos Qualifier), Amateurs Grand Prix (Leddy League) the Pony Springboard League and the National Development League for junior and young riders. This year the show will host a round of the ever popular Irish Sport Horse Studbook Showjumping Series open to five, six and seven-year-olds Irish bred horses. With a generous prize fund of nine thousand five hundred euro over the course of the two days this series will attract Irelands top young horses. Apart from the above classes there is also a full selection of pony jumping classes, from the Glencarrig league to Grand Prix level.
