Talk about the colours they can see, - sky, trees, buildings, shops, cars, plants, grass, etc. Give the children a colour chart to find & match the colours. Talk to the children about how they need to care for & look after the environment in the setting & outside and in the wider environment. Ask the children to make suggestions as to how they might do this helping to tidy away toys, putting equipment away in the correct place so others know where to find them, throwing their rubbish in the bin, etc. Make a chart of all the colours the children can see around them both inside & outside. Talk to the children about the changing colours of their environment through the seasons. Look at pictures of autumn and winter, talk about how the colours have changed. Talk about the colours of a rainbow go on a colour hunt to find items in the setting to match the colours of the rainbow. Create a classroom interactive display of the childrens favourite colours. Collect items & objects both natural (leaves, twigs, conkers, cones, etc) & commercial (toys, classroom equipment, pens/pencils, etc.) Talk about the colours, why they have a favourite and how the colour makes them feel. Use the story of Elmer or Picasso the Green Frog to talk about how colours can affect how you feel. Look at the colours of autumn fruit. Talk about the names & types of fruit apples, blackberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, damsons. Let children taste different fruits, fruit flavours drinks, ice creams, sorbets. Discuss which flavours are their favourites Talk to the children about special things that can be important to us because of how they look & feel. Introduce the theme of shiny & reflective objects & materials precious stones, gold, silver. Read stories such as The Rainbow Fish Lauras Star or Milo and the Magical Stones. Discuss with the children the importance of sharing special things with other people giving things to other people can make us happy. How did the rainbow fish when he had no friends? What happened to the cave when all the greedy mice took the shiny stones?

Can the children recognise the colours of different shops, food stores, fast food places, e.g. green for Asda, red & yellow for MacDonalds, etc. - Make a collection of natural objects /items leaves, conkers, twigs, stones, pebbles, etc. Can the children sort the items into different colours? Introduce the use of words to describe the colours/shades of items light green, dark brown; textures /shapes rough, smooth, curved, pointed, round. - Let the children take part in feely bag games using a range of objects with different textures, colours, shapes encourage the children to describe the objects using appropriate vocabulary. - Introduce a box of objects and materials which have shiny and reflective properties mirrors, kaleidoscope, shiny paper- survival blanket, jewels, shiny toys slinky, ball, beanies, unbreakable Christmas decorations, plastic jewels/beads, foil different colours, coloured sequins in small bags & boxes, etc. Let the children explore the objects provide vocabulary to help the children to describe the properties of the objects shiny, glittery, shimmering, bright, - Let the children pretend to be treasure hunters (pirates) hide the items in the room or outdoor area give instructions to the children as to where they might find the treasure let the children take turns at hiding the treasure and giving instructions. - Bring in and share with the class one of your treasures. - Create different types of number lines with the children leaves, colours of different shades. Allow the children to choose the number line they would like out each day, work together to set up the number line, set simple problems like upside down or missing numbers. - Make simple calendars with countdowns to special activities & events, e.g. birthdays, bonfire night, Diwali, Christmas, Eid, etc. - Build up the childrens interest in counting and numbers through rhymes & songs. Introduce new rhymes & songs or change the words of familiar songs. 5 yellow stars swinging in the sky (to the tune of 10 green bottles).Use objects & pictures to encourage & support their involvement in singing activities. Introduce zero or none at the beginning or end of song / rhyme. - Provide magnetic pictures/number symbols linked to number rhymes /songs for use in group sessions or on a maths table when children are working independently. Use questioning to support understanding of numbers and mathematical language what number comes next?, how many have you got? - Encourage children to count using fingers, starting with a clench fist, encourage children to straighten one finger as a number is said. Introduce counting with a range of objects, e.g. conkers, coloured laminated leaves, birthday candles, etc. - Using beanie animals re-create a picnic for Percy park-keeper or have a beanie kids party count the correct number of plates, cups, hats, play food etc. Have all the animals got a plate? Are there enough cups? - Using different coloured present boxes and corresponding coloured small objects, soft toys, play simple counting games counting up to 5/10 objects into the box, and up to 5 /10 objects out of the box. Make treasure boxes/feely bags for and/or with the children Collect specific items with different properties - shiny, sparkly & reflective properties, magnetic properties, different textures/sounds/smells, or seasonal /festival boxes -an autumn box, an Eid box, a halloween box, a Christmas box, etc. Model & use language and words to describe the properties of the items, objects, materials you have collected. Encourage children to use their own words to describe how things look /feel. - As seasonal activities take place & opportunities arise talk about & introduce language to describe different smells -use real items or substitutes which represent different smells sparklers bonfire, treacle toffee, autumn leaves, seasons, festivals - use pot pourri, candles, soaps, oils, etc. Let the children look more closely at some of the natural items they have collected using a magnifying glass - the veins on the leaves, a piece of bark. If possible let the children take magnifying glasses out into the environment.

Explore colours through different media - mix paint with - shaving foam, sand, wood shavings to create different textures - encourage the children to describe what they see & feel. - Use colour paddles or acetate to look through - investigate what we see when we look through two different colours at the same time . - Explore bubbles, what shapes can they make, can they see any colours reflected in the bubbles. - Let the children explore different ways of joining through threading activities - using treasury tags, cord, different thickness of thread, pipe cleaners. Make shiny / coloured jewellery using shiny paper, bottle tops, sweet wrappers, beads, coloured pasta (sprayed different colours including silver & gold). - Learn about a celebration together with the children -, Diwali (Hindu), Christmas(Christian). Talk about clothes, colours, significant features /activities, artefacts - talk about how the children celebrate these festivals at home leading up to this special time.

play games which allow opportunities to find their own space & allow them to be aware of others space - the children move around the space in different ways until a colour is shouted, then they stand on a coloured spot, in a coloured hoop /coloured corner - Set up simple obstacle courses - run round the red cones, through the green tunnel, jump in & out of the yellow hoop, etc. - Provide opportunities to play with large cardboard boxes - let the children pretend they are in a cave, a rocket or Percys hut - climbing, crawling, lifting, pushing, pulling skills - Play colour statues game - green arms out, red stand tall, orange curl up in a ball, blue make a star shape - let the children make up their own movements - Play firework game - move in different ways in response to the name of a firework - spin like a catherine wheel, bounce around like a fire cracker, jump in the air like a rocket - let the children make their own suggestions - Ribbon games - provide different coloured ribbons & let the children choose their own colour, provide hoops for them to stand in to begin with, & let them move the ribbons with arm movements - waving, lifting up & down, side to side, circles. Ex.let the children explore movements of the ribbon - run with the ribbons, jumping, - take the ribbons outside & explore the movements in the wind. - Let children play mirror games with a partner - copy simple actions. - Parachute games - jump under the parachute like a fire cracker, a rocket, a catherine wheel. - Introduce equipment /tools /objects to use with the dough - rolling pins, fork, lollipop sticks, pastry cutters. Provide objects & equipment to encourage pattern making - pencils, lego bricks, leaves, twigs, bark, garlic press, and materials they can add to their finished model - sequins, pipe cleaners, twigs, pieces of card, foil, buttons, bottle caps, drinking straws, etc. - make simple models using some of the skills they have developed - rolling into different sized balls, or long sausage shapes. Can they join 2 pieces together using water & scratching the surfaces to be joined (can they make a hole in the dough using a pencil (make jewellery).

I have been exploring colour, texture, shape, form and space in two and three dimensions I can respond in a variety of ways to what I see, hear, smell, touch and feel

with different types & sizes of brushes. Explore the brushes using different techniques - pressing, use side of flat brush, blotting, turning, painting with horizontal & vertical strokes across the paper. Talk about the effects, use different colours, look for emerging patterns. Provide different consistencies of paint & mix with different materials wallpaper paste, sand, sawdust, glitter. - Rolling beads in a tray with paper - create different patterns leaving a trail of paint. Use seasonal /festival colours - gold/silver, reds, oranges, yellows, browns for autumn, bright fluorescent colours for fireworks. Talk about the patterns, introduce vocabulary to describe the fireworks - explode, bright, sparkle, shine. Display pictures collaboratively.

Create colourful collages using bright coloured papers, shiny sparkly bits, sweet wrappers make mobiles to decorate the setting for different celebrations /festivals /events - Explore mark making materials to make patterns - crayons, chalks, pastels colour pencils pressing hard/gentle, zig-zags, dots, wavy lines, crosses, shading, putting one colour on top of another - Read stories such as Elmer, Elmer & Wilbur,The Mixed Up Chameleon or Picasso the Green Frog to talk about different colours and changing colour. - Talk about different types of colours hot/warm, cool/cold, pastels, bright - make colour charts - look at charts from DIY stores - Talk about the colours in the environment - autumn, night-time lights, colours of different festivals, rainbow colours - Opportunities to explore mixing 2 colours together - through painting, printing, mixing in palettes - red & blue, red & yellow, blue & yellow red & white, black & white - Using one colour at a time mix with white or black to make different shades of a colour use colour names, light green, dark blue. Make colour charts for different shades - Provide opportunities to talk about and share the childrens work. Talk about the colours used, techniques, patterns. Encourage ch to ask each other questions - was the paint runny, what brush did you use, how did you make that colour, etc. Use the works of various artists to provide a stimulus for different pieces of work. Play different types of music for the children to listen to as they arrive in the morning. Choose lively music, slow gentle music, sing - a longs, etc. Each day ask the children what they thought of the music, how did it make them feel, did they find themselves humming or singing along. With the childrens help choose a colour to represent how each piece of music made them feel - Provide opportunities to sing songs & listen to music associated with different events, celebrations & festivals - Diwali, Eid, Christmas, bonfire night. - Encourage children to select own instruments during activities & to use correct name. Explore instruments through group activities, but allow the children to experiment with instruments during independent activities - offer different types of music & songs for the children to play along to colours, seasonal, celebrations.
