FOOD Meats, fish

Eggs

FOODS TO LIMIT OR AVOID Choose lean meats Pork, bacon, sausage (chicken, turkey veal and and other pork products; non-fatty cuts of beef fatty fowl (duck, goose); with excess fat trimmed). skin and fat of turkey and (One serving 3 oz. chicken; processed cooked meat). Fruits

Vegetables Most vegetables are not limited. One dark green (string beans, escarole) or one deep-yellow (squash) vegetable is recommended daily. Vegetables may be boiled, steamed, strained, or braised with polyunsaturated vegetable oil.

Avoid avocados and olives. Starchy vegetables (potatoes, corn, lima beans, dried peas and beans) may be used only if substitute for a serving of bread or cereal.

Beans

Dried peas or beans (1serving=1/2 cup) may be used as bread substitute (precaution should be taken if you are hyperuricemic) Pecan, walnuts and peanuts may be used sparingly. 1 serving=tablespoonful. Always use skim milk or skim milk product such as low-fat cheeses (farmers uncreamed cottage, mozzarella), low-fat yogurt, and powdered skim milk.

Commercial baked beans with sugar and/or pork.

Nuts

Avoid nuts, limit pecans, walnuts and peanuts to one tablespoonful per day. Whole milk and wholemilk packaged goods; cream, ice cream; whole milk puddings; yogurt or cheeses, nondairy cream substitutes.

Soft margarine and polyunsaturated vegetable oil derived from soybean, sunflower, corn, or sesame seeds. SODIUM RESTRICTED DIET

Description
These diets have varying levels of sodium that are lower than the usual sodium content of the regular diet which is approximately 2800 to 6000 mg or the equivalent 7 to 15 grams of sodium chloride. The sodium in the regular diet comes mainly from table salt, although appreciable amounts may come from the natural sodium content of foods. Thus, sodium-restricted diets limit the use, not only of table salt, but also of foods naturally high in sodium. The diet follows the daily food plan of the regular diet, but the foods allowed are those low in sodium. No salt is used in the preparation and service of meals.

Indications for Use Conditions of sodium or saline excess as in:

Congestive heart failure with edema or hypertension Liver disease with ascites Glomerulonephritis

Nephrotic syndrome Acute and chronic renal failure

FOOD Soups

Protein- Egg limited to one daily rich foods (3x/week): unsalted meats, fish, poultry, clams, shrimps, other shellfishes in allowed amounts; low-sodium dietetic peanut butter and cheese. Vegetables All fresh vegetables and those canned without salt; carrots and celery without salt when used sparingly.

Canned, frozen, salted, cured, smoked or processed meats, fish and poultry and those containing sodium, regular cheese, peanut butter and salted pickled eggs. Canned or frozen processed vegetables except dietic packs or those frozen without salt, fresh dampalit, spinach., Kinchay, olasiman, mustard and beets; avocado Artificially colored juice, glazed or candied fruits; maraschino cherries; coconut. Dried or frozen fruits to which salt, sulfities, and other additives containing sodium has been added. Drippings from bacon, ham, salted pork, and other salted meats; chicharon, margarine and butter in excessive amounts, commercial salad dressing, salted nuts and olives.

Fresh, canned, dried or frozen fruits or juice if no sodium benzoate or sulfate has been added and in allowed amount.
