SUBMITTALS Manufacturer's Data: 1. For information only, submit copies of manufacturer's specifications and installation instructions for all proprietary materials and reinforcement accessories.

B.

Mill Certificates: 1. Contractor shall furnish MARAFIQ with copies of the manufacturer's records of chemical and physical properties of all heats of billet steel bars and copies of affidavit for materials stating that the material furnished meets the requirements for the steel reinforcement specified. Manufacturers' records shall include certificates of mill analysis, tensile, and bend tests.

C.

Shop Drawings: 1. Submit shop drawings for fabrication bending, and placement of concrete reinforcement. Comply with ACI 315 "Manual of Standard Practice for Detailing Reinforced Concrete Structures." Show bar schedules, stirrup spacing, diagrams of bent, bars, arrangements and assemblies, as required for the fabrication and placement of concrete reinforcement.

1.4 A.

DELIVERY, HANDLING AND STORAGE Deliver reinforcement to the project site bundled, tagged and marked. Use metal tags indicating bar size, lengths, and other information corresponding to markings shown on placement diagrams. Store concrete reinforcement materials at the site in the manner to prevent damage and accumulation of dirt or excessive rust.

PART 2 -PRODUCTS 2.1 A. GENERAL Proprietary names used for materials are intended to imply that products of the named Saudi manufacturers are required. Equivalent products of other manufacturers may only be used where local supply is not available. MATERIALS Deformed Reinforcing Bars: ASTM A615, Grade 60. Reinforcing Bars to be Welded: ASTM A706. Steel Wire: ASTM A82. Welded Wire Fabric: ASTM A185. 1. Furnish in flat sheets, not rolls, unless rolls are acceptable to the MARAFIQ.

2.2 A. B. C. D.

E.

Column Spirals: Plain, cold-drawn wire, ASTM A82, or hot-rolled rods for spirals, ASTM A615. Supports for Reinforcement: Bolsters, chairs, spacers and other devices for spacing, supporting and fastening reinforcement in place. 1. Use wire bar type supports complying with CRSI recommendations, unless otherwise indicated. Do not use wood, brick, and other unacceptable materials. The supports shall be used in such a manner that they will not be exposed or contribute to the discoloration or deterioration of the concrete. For slabs on grade, use supports with sand plates or horizontal runners where base material will not support chair legs. For exposed-to-view concrete surfaces, where legs of supports are in contact with forms, provide supports with either hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel protected legs, at Contractor's option. Over waterproof membranes, use precast concrete chairs to prevent penetration of the membrane.

Polymer Grid: HDPE polymer grid reinforcement with minimum weight of 0.50 kg/m2 and maximum tensile strength of 6.00 kN/m, (ASTM Volume 08/1990). FABRICATION General: Fabricate reinforcing bars to conform to required shapes and dimensions, with fabrication tolerances complying with CRSI "Manual of

Standard Practice." In case of fabricating errors, do not re-bend or straighten reinforcement in a manner that will injure or weaken the material. B. Unacceptable Materials: Reinforcement with any of the following defects will not be permitted in the work: 1. Bar lengths, depths, and bends exceeding specified fabrication tolerances. 2. Bend or kinks not indicated on drawings or final shop drawings. 3. Bars with reduced cross-section due to excessive rusting or other cause.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 A. INSTALLATION Comply with the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) recommended practice for "Placing Reinforcing Bars," for details and methods of reinforcement placement and supports, and as herein specified. Clean reinforcement to remove loose rust and mill scale, earth, and other materials which reduce or destroy bond with concrete. Position, support, and secure reinforcement against displacement by formwork, construction, or concrete placement operations. Locate and support reinforcing by metal chairs, runners, bolsters, spacers and hangers, as required. In concrete exposed to weather, reinforcement including ties shall be placed to obtain a minimum concrete clear cover of 50 mm. In concrete not exposed to weather, reinforcement including ties shall have cover as per MARAFIQ Structural Code Section 507.H.1(c). Arrange, space, and securely tie bars supports and reinforcement together with 1.52mm wire to hold reinforcement accurately in position during concrete placement operations. Set wire ties so that twisted ends are directed away from exposed concrete surfaces. Install welded wire fabric in as long lengths as practicable. Lap adjoining pieces at least one full mesh and lace splices with 1.52 mm wire. Do not make end laps midway between supporting beams, or directly over beams of continuous structures. Offset end laps in adjacent widths to prevent continuous laps. Provide sufficient numbers of supports and of strength to carry reinforcement. Do not place reinforcing bars more than 50 mm beyond the last leg of any continuous bar support. Do not use supports as bases for runways for concrete conveying equipment and similar construction loads. Splices: 1. Provide standard reinforcement splices by lapping ends, placing bars in contact, and tightly wire tying. Comply with requirements of the contract drawings for minimum lap of spliced bars.

2.

Welding: Comply with the requirements of AWS D12.1 for field welding. Prior to field welding, determine the weldability of reinforcing bars by a laboratory chemical analysis of steel. Only steel conforming to the chemical requirements specified in AWS D12.1 may be welded. a. Inspection and Tests of Welds: Tests shall be made by the independent testing laboratory for reinforcing bar welds, as follows: (1) Certificate of welders engaged in electric-arc welding of reinforcing. Inspection of reinforcing bar welds. X-ray test of one of the first 3 arc-welds made by each welder. Make 2 tensile tests of sample welds of the largest size bar for each type of welding.

(2) (3) (4)

b.

Deficient welds will require the Contractor to provide and pay for such additional X-rays and tests as directed by the MARAFIQ. Repair or replace defective welds to the satisfaction of the MARAFIQ.

3.

For polymer reinforcement grid provide splices lapping with minimum 150mm.

H.

Bonding: For cathodically protected reinforcing systems, provide electrically continuous reinforcement using copper conductors, steel straps, tack welding, brazing, and thermite welding. + + END OF SECTION 03200 +
