REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Front

ALL MODELS EXCEPT E CLASS 4-MATIC

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section. 2. Remove or disconnect the following: Front wheel Brake caliper and rotor Grease cap Clamping nut and washer Wheel hub Grease seal Bearing To install: 3. Install or connect the following: Bearing Grease seal Wheel hub Washer and clamping nut 4. Adjust bearing play. Torque the clamp bolt to 96 inch lbs. (12 Nm) 5. Fill the grease cap to the flared edge with high temperature roller bearing grease and install the cap. 6. Install or connect the following: Rotor and caliper Front wheel

Steering knuckle and related components E Class 4-Matic (210)

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section. 2. Remove or disconnect the following: Front wheel 12-point axle nut (61) Front axle distributor connector Speed and brake lining sensor wires. Position out of the way Brake disc (34) Splash shield (35) Speed sensor and bracket (5f) Tie rod end (10a) Ball joint (7) Follower joint (8) Steering knuckle Axle flange Snapring Bearing assembly using a press To install: 3. Press a new bearing into the knuckle and install the snapring. 4. Press the axle flange into the bearing. 5. Install or connect the following: Steering knuckle Follower joint. Torque the nut to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm) Ball joint. Torque the nut to 77 ft. lbs. (105 Nm) Tie rod end. Torque the nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm) Speed sensor and bracket Splash shield Brake disc Sensor wiring Axle distributor connector 12-point axle nut. Torque the nut to 162 ft. lbs. (220 Nm) Front wheel

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section. 2. Remove or disconnect the following: Rear wheel Exhaust if necessary Cable guide rail Level sensor control rod if equipped 12-point axle nut Axle shaft to differential flange attaching bolts Axle shaft Brake disc Parking brake shoes Axle flange Snap ring Bearing using a puller Axle shaft flange race using a puller To install: 3. Press the new bearing (8) into the axle carrier. 4. Install or connect the following: Snapring (9) Axle flange (10) Parking brake shoes Brake disc Axle shaft. Torque the M10 bolts to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm) and the M12 bolts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm) 12-point axle nut. Torque the nut to 236 ft. lbs. (320 Nm) on the 140 model or 162 ft. lbs. (220) on the remaining models Level sensor control rod Cable guide Exhaust system Rear wheel
