WWPL Plans Improvements

Westfield Washington Public Library Board of Trustees: Mike Thomas, President Carolyn Wheeler, Vice President Paul Catlin, Treasurer Mic Mead, Secretary Nancy Knochel Dan Pitcock David Weiss The Westfield Washington Public Library has unveiled plans for a renovation, space reallocation and addition to the existing facility. This project will renovate the library, redesign some of the space for better efficiency and will also include: A Dedicated Computer Lab Quiet Study Rooms A Community/Library Programming Room A Dedicated Area for Teen Patrons Plans were based on a 2009 patron survey, and the librarys Board of Trustees voted at their February 2012 to move forward with the project pending approval of the Westfield City Council. The current library was built in 1983 and was last renovated in 1994, and the population of Westfield and Washington Township has since tripled. This project would also help to bring WWPL more in line with amenities available at other Hamilton County libraries. By law, the Westfield City Council has to approve any bonds issued by the library board. Once that approval has been granted, the board will proceed to sell bonds in the amount of $2,000,000.00. Any additional funds needed to complete the project will be raised independent of the bond.

The Library Board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at The library board passed the preliminary bond resolution by a vote of 6 1, and according to library board president Mike Thomas, funding for the project will 7:00 p.m. have no impact on the library tax rate. Current bonds will be retiring and will be replaced by the bonds for this plan.

Library Hours Monday-Thursday 10:00 AM-8:00 PM Friday 10:00 AM-6:00 PM Saturday 10:00 AM-5:00 PM Closed Sunday

The Westfield City Council will be voting to approve the bonds for this project at their meeting on Monday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Westfield City Hall. Everyone is encouraged to show their support by attending this meeting with their families and bringing along their favorite library item (i.e. book, DVD, E-Reader, etc.). Information about the project is available on the librarys website www.wwpl.lib.in.us/ Addition renovation.htm, Facebook page http:// www.facebook.com/WWPL46074 and at the library. You may also show your support by signing the letter available at the library.
