Lesson Objectives:
Students will reflect on previous English classes. Students will apply their prior knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and writing skills to an online sample SAT. Students will engage in an online activity which exposes them to the use of technology in the classroom as well as to a test they will be required to take. Students will practice verbally discussing their strengths and weaknesses regarding this activity

Introduce the Learning Activity:

I will first introduce a Bell Ringer to the students during which I will ask the following questions: 1. What are you fears/concerns regarding the English section of the SATs? 2. Given the knowledge regarding grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary and writing skills you have so far acquired in this class, do you feel prepared for the SATs? Students will be encouraged to actively participate by verbally responding to these questions when called on. After reviewing students responses to these questions as a class, I will go over the objectives of this lesson to express what will be addressed during this lesson.

Provide Information:
A. I will then instruct students to open the link to Scribd on my resources page. This link will lead students to a worksheet which has three examples of the types of problems they will encounter in the English section of the SATs. B. Students will be called on to answer the examples and explain why they chose their answer. Once we have gone over the results of all three examples as a class, I will provide students with tips to keep in mind when attempting these types of problems on the SATs. C. Students will also have access to a Scribd link which lists the tips we discuss. This document will be available for students to print out if they wish to have their own copy.

Provide Practice:
A. I will guide students to the CollegeBoard website, http://sat.collegeboard.org/practice/satpractice-test, which they will use to answer practice SAT questions from the ELA section. The questions are multiple choice samples from the Sentence Completion and Writing sections of the SAT. This website allows students to preview exactly how questions on the SAT will be presented to them. As students engage in the activity, I will consistently walk around the room responding to any questions students have and making sure they understand the material and are actively participating. Students will perform this activity for approximately 10 minutes. B. There may be some questions which students find to be particularly difficult for their level of understanding, and I will encourage them to make note of these questions by either writing them down or verbally voicing their concerns to me.

C. When students have completed all sections of the multiple choice questions, I will instruct them to print out their results.

Provide Knowledge of Results:

A. Once all students have completed the activity, I will address any questions students had regarding difficult questions. Whether students claim to have been confused by a question, literary term or vocabulary word, I will provide tips for them to use when facing such questions again. B. During this time, students will also be encouraged to express their feelings on the sample questions and the lesson as a whole. My main objective is to expose students to a test which can seem overwhelming to students their age and attempt to provide them with strategies to complete such a test to the best of their ability.

Method of Assessment:
A. As mentioned before, students will print out their results from the online activity which I will count as a participation grade. B. I will also provide students with an exit slip asking the questions: 1. Do you have the same, or any new, questions/concerns about the ELA section of the SATs after this class? 2. Were you surprised by the format of the questions involved in the activity? C. I would also encourage students to continue practicing via this website up until the time they take the SATs and to inform me if they do. This would allow me to see if students took to the activity and felt that it helped them prepare for the SATs.
