I are delighted to welcome you to our annual Religious Education Congress. This won-
derful annual gathering affords us the opportunity to renew our discipleship with Jesus
Christ, our membership in the Body of Christ, His Church, and our commitment to the
ministry of evangelization and catechesis.
This years theme, Hold Firm...Trust!, is inspired by the Scriptures for the Second
Sunday of our Lenten journey. We are drawn into the extraordinary love of God who
accompanies us on our faith journeys, steadies us in times of challenge, and leads us
to the fullness of the Paschal Mystery. Trusting in Gods presence and power, we walk
with con dence through seasons of dark and of light.
The Keynote and addresses, the many workshops, and the varied Liturgical Celebra-
tions offered throughout the weekend are a rich source of renewal for us all. We are
grati ed and encouraged that so many of you take advantage of the extraordinary
opportunities to deepen your lives in Jesus Christ, to reaf rm your love for the Church,
and to commit yourselves to proclaiming the Good News of Jesus for the whole world.
Your leadership and faithful participation are key to the ongoing growth and well-being
of our parish communities.

It is a great joy for me to welcome you once again to our uplifting and inspiring Religious
Education Congress. This outstanding weekend offers many opportunities for re-energizing
our lives and enriching our ministries.
The Congress theme Hold FirmTrust! echoes the words of the prophet Jeremiah who
likens the one who trusts, to a tree by the waterside that has no fear even in a year of drought.
Nourished at its roots by the rich soil, it grows and ourishes in all seasons. Heartened by this
promise we move forward, buoyed up with energy for the journey.
As you will recall, a Religious Education Endowment Fund has been established in the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles for the ongoing education and formation of Directors of Religious
Education, Adult Educators, Young Adults and Youth Ministers. The fund is currently enabling
20 students to pursue a masters degree in Religious Education. Your gift offering at the 2010
Congress Saturday night liturgies together with online contributions added $44,702 to this
fund. We thank for your on-going generosity.
Our spirits are sure to be lifted with the inspiring liturgical celebrations, entertainment and
multicultural expressions provided. In the midst of the many activities there is also opportunity
to step back and rest in the silence of Sacred Space, walk the labyrinth or participate in the
Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Thank you for your exceptional leadership and your unwavering commitment to keep on shar-
ing the Good News of our rich heritage.

ship with Loyola Marymount University,
presents excerpts from a number of narra-
tive feature lms, shorts, documentaries,
experimental and animated lms, whose
thematic elements are grounded in Catholic
social teaching, justice, ministry, spirituality
and theology. Filmmakers will be present to
meet with audience members.

SMOKING
Smoking is not allowed at the Convention Center,
other than the designated outdoor courtyards.
NAME TAGS/TICKETS
Congress Name Tags are required to be worn at all
times during scheduled events. Tickets are necessary
for admittance into workshops and general sessions.
TICKET EXCHANGE
You may exchange tickets for any open workshops
during the same period beginning at noon on the Fri-
day of Congress at the Registration Booths Exchange
window, located in the Prefunction area. Note: Any
ticket can be used for sessions of the same time in the
Arena or Hall B.
SAVING SEATS
It is permissible to save seats up to 10 minutes before
a scheduled function begins. After that time, we ask
that, in Christian love, you release these seats for
others. If any Congress volunteer requests that you
release seats that you are saving, please comply with
the direction given.
WORKSHOPS
All workshops are ticketed and no one will be ad-
mitted to any session without the proper ticket. Any
valid ticket will serve as admission to Arena or Hall
B workshops, but these sessions are not open to those
without tickets.
Our speakers are generously sharing their time and
talents with us. As a special courtesy to them, we ask
that you please arrive at the workshop location prior
to the scheduled start time. We remind you to please
silence or turn off pagers and cell phones.
All sessions will begin on time, and many speakers
have asked that no one be admitted after the session
has begun. Also, we ask you to avoid, as much as
possible, leaving workshops during a presentation.
Most of the workshops will have a natural break time
when it would be less disruptive to the speaker and to
the other participants.

commissioned in 500 years. A team of 14 cal-
ligraphers and artists have completed six of
seven volumes that make up The Saint Johns Bible. The last
volume, Letters and Revelation will be completed in 2012.

youth, so our informal program will provide: 1) information
about the MLGC; 2) time to discuss how we can confront
tragedies like bullying and teen suicide; and 3) a Q&A ses-

The Cross as Transformation
Across the cultural, economic and educational spectrum people appear to be
suffering from a common malady of hopelessness. As Christians, we claim to
be heirs to a promise that overcomes the death of hopelessness. We profess that

meaning of the cross for a suffering world. It will offer insights into the necessity
of teaching and preaching the enigma of the cross, as an essential sign of hope.
For, in the midst of the darkness and despair, there is the transforming light of
the resurrected cruci ed Christ.

Queridos participantes al Congreso 2011:
Me siento muy contento de poder darles a ustedes mi calurosa bienvenida a nuestro
Congreso anual de Educacin Religiosa. Esta maravillosa reunin nos ofrece
la oportunidad de renovar nuestra fe y nuestro compromiso a los ministerios de
evangelizacin y catequesis.
El tema del Congreso de este ao Mantente FirmeCon a! inspirado por las lecturas
seleccionadas para el segundo Domingo de Cuaresma, nos atrae hacia el exorbitante
amor de Dios que constantemente nos acompaa en el trayecto, nos sostiene en tiempos
de desafo y nos conduce a espacios de solaz y renovacin. Con ando en la presencia y
el poder de Dios caminamos con con anza a travs de los tiempos de tinieblas y de luz.
Los excelentes oradores, los talleres y las celebraciones litrgicas ofrecidos durante
este n de semana son un riqusimo recurso de renovacin para todas las personas
participantes. Yo me siento agradecido y animado al ver cmo tantas personas toman
ventaja de las extraordinarias oportunidades para establecer contactos, ofrecer aportes y
enriquecerse. Su liderazgo y el participacin son la llave para el contnuo crecimiento
y bienestar de nuestras comunidades parroquiales.

Darles, una vez ms, la bienvenida a nuestro fabuloso congreso es siempre una gran alegra. Este
n de semana ofrece varias oportunidades para encuentros, re exin y un renovado empeo en
proclamar las riquezas de nuestra historia sagrada.
Nuestro tema Abundancia Increble inspirado en las lecturas del quinto domingo de Cuaresma
nos recuerda la abundante gracia de Dios que se desborda en actos de amor y misericordia. Las
fuerzas de la muerte y desesperacin se superan. Las piedras y asperezas que obstaculizan el ujo
de la vida son removidas por las palabras de Jess quien trae la nueva vida.
Como ustedes recordarn, se ha establecido la Fundacin de Educacin Religiosa en la Arquidice-
sis de Los Angeles para la formacin y educacin continua de los Directores de Educacin Religio-
sa, Formadores de Adultos, de Jvenes y Ministerios Juveniles. Actualmente este fondo apoya a 10
estudiantes para obtener su Maestra en Educacin Religiosa. Las donaciones dadas en las distintas
liturgias del sbado durante el Congreso del 2009 alcanzaron los $40,207. Agradecemos tambin a
quienes realizaron una contribucin especial a este fondo mediante su registracin en nuestro sitio.
Ofrecemos una diversidad de oportunidades, celebraciones litrgicas inspiradas, entretenimientos
y expresiones multiculturales que son una bendicin. Ustedes estn cordialmente invitados a
caminar en el laberinto, a participar del sacramento de Reconciliacin o a disfrutar momentos de
quietud en el espacio sagrado. Conscientes de nuestra responsabilidad comn de cuidar la tierra y
todo lo creado, tendremos una exhibicin especial con recursos y oportunidades para intercam-
biar ideas y reunir esfuerzos en esta importante labor.
Una vez ms, agradezco su presencia, su constante participacin y la esperanza que ustedes tan
generosamente comparten con sus comunidades de fe. Espero poder saludarlos personalmente

Congreso 2011 cuenta con La Biblia de
San Juan la primera Biblia manuscrita
e iluminada realizada por un monasterio
benedictino despus de la invencin de la
imprenta. Un equipo de 14 calgrafos y
artistas ya han completado seis de los siete
volmenes que componen la Biblia de San
Juan. Ven a gozar de las reproducciones
artsticas de estos seis primeros volmenes.

ESTACIONAMIENTO
El estacionamiento durante el da est disponible
en la estructura de estacionamiento del Centro de
Conven ciones al precio de $12 por da sin privilegios
de entradas y salidas.
GAFETES / BOLETOS
Los gafetes con sus nombres debern ser portados
en todo momento. Los boletos son necesarios para
la admisin tanto en las sesiones generales como en
los talleres.
RESERVACIN DE ASIENTOS
Se permite reservar asientos para sus amigos, sola-
mente hasta 10 minutos antes de que empiece la sesin.
Despus de este tiempo, le rogamos deje los asientos
libres, y permita que otra persona los ocupe.
Le pedimos que si usted est guardando el asiento para
alguien, y un voluntario del congreso le pide que le
deje ese asiento a alguien ms, siga las instrucciones
que le sean dadas.
EMERGENCIAS
En caso de alguna emergencia, pngase, por favor,
en contacto con la persona ms prxima que est
portando un listn o cial del congreso blanco o azul,
estas personas estn en contacto radial y pueden
conseguir ayuda inmediata. Para una emergencia
que consideren de vida o muerte, por favor llamen al
9-1-1.

No se permite fumar en el centro de convenciones, hay
varios patios asignados dnde ser permitido.

Una estacin de Primeros Auxilios para problemas de
salud rutinarios estar localizada en la galera afuera
del rea del Pasillo A (Hall A).
RESERVACIONES DE RESTAURANTE
En Adems de nuestra lista en las pginas 80-81, en
la galera a fuera del rea del Hall A puede encontrar
menus y a la vez hacer reservaciones:

TELEFONOS CELULARES / PAGERS
Como seal de respeto hacia los conferenciastas y
otros participantes, por favor apaguen sus telfonos y
pagers durante las liturgias y talleres.
TALLERES
Para asistir a los talleres debe tener el boleto apropiado
para ese taller. Nadie podr entrar a los talleres sin
boleto. Puede usar su boleto para asistir al taller de la
Arena o la Sala B pero este taller no es para personas
sin boletos. Por favor no olvide apagar su telfono
celular y pager.
Todos los talleres comenzarn a tiempo. Algunos con-
ferencistas han pedido que no dejemos entrar a perso-
nas que lleguen tarde. Tambin les pedimos, que traten
de no salirse del taller durante la presentacin. La
mayora de los talleres tiene un descanso, le pedimos
que si desea no continuar en el taller use este tiempo
para irse ya que as no perturbar al conferencista ni
a los otros participantes.
CAMBIO DE BOLETOS
Se pueden cambiar boletos de los talleres que tengan
lugares disponibles durante el da viernes a partir del
medio da en la ventanilla del puesto de inscripcin
localizada en el area de prefuncin. Nota: Todos los
boletos pueden ser usados para entrar a las sesiones
de la Arena y el Hall B.

Cmo Hablar de Dios a las Mujeres y Hombres de Hoy
La cosmovisin o representacin que el ser humano tena de la realidad ha
cambiado. Ese cambio ha hecho que las nuevas generaciones, en especial los jvenes,
se alejen de la fe y no encuentren en la Iglesia y sus discursos el mensaje de sentido
y salvacin que en el fondo todos los humanos buscamos. Es por tanto urgente que
todos los predicadores y ministros identi quemos esos cambios y respondamos a
ellos, tal y como el Concilio Vaticano II lo sugiri y nos llam a hacerlo.
Dora Tobar Mensbrugghe, de origen colombiano, ha dedicado los ltimos 20
aos de su vida a la promocin del evangelio tanto a nivel universito como par-
roquial y popular. Es Profesora del Programa de Diaconado Permanente en la
Arquidicesis de Washington, D.C., y Profesora del Instituto de Formacin de la
Dicesis de Arlington, Virginia.

The Religious Education Endowment Fund was established by the Of ce of Religious Education to support the on-going
training and formation of religious education leaders, particularly by making scholarships available for the ongoing edu-
cation and formation of Directors of Religious Education, Adult Educators, Young Adults and Youth Ministers to pursue
graduate studies. It is our hope that every Director of Religious Education and Director of Youth Ministry will be given
the opportunity to receive a masters degree in Religious Education/Religious Studies.
Those who registered online could contribute to this Fund, as well as those who made an additional contribution through
mail-in registrations. As of Febraury 14, 788 people responded with contributions totaling $10,775. We sincerely ap-
preciate and acknowledge their contributions. The Fund is currently enabling 20 students to pursue a masters degree in
Religious Education, and you will be happy to know that several have already graduated!
