Delivering for us in tough times
The news can be pretty bleak at times, but, amid all the chaos, there are some bright signs for Sheffield. Our citys schools are getting a massive cash boost from Nick Cleggs Pupil Premium thanks to the Lib Dems in government. There is a massive investment in Sheffield jobs and a bold new scheme to get young people working. Sheffield pensioners are also set to get a record pension increase this April. Our local MP Nick Clegg has taken a lot of stick in the past two years. He deserves real credit for sticking to the task and delivering for our city.
Hundreds more young people in Sheffield have taken up apprenticeships under the coalition government than under Labour. Mr Clegg said, Britain needs big, northern cities like Sheffield to be powerhouses for growth, creating the real jobs we need to get our economy back on track.

Standing up for his area: Lib Dem Rob Frost is fighting Labours plans to go easy on offenders. Crookes Ward Lib Dem campaigner Rob Frost has vowed to campaign against Labours plans to go soft on offenders in Sheffield. Labour are threatening Community Justice Panels with a 10% cut. Community Justice Panels force youth offenders to explain themselves to their victims. They have cut reoffending from 34% to 4%. Mr Frost said, Community Justice Panels are a popular and successful tool in the fight against youth offending. Its typical of Labour that they want to cut such an innovative and successful Lib Dem service.
Nick Cleggs victory for Sheffield children: the Pupil Premium cash bonus for schools is one of Nick Cleggs most cherished policies. Lib Dem Schools Minister Sarah Teather has almost doubled the amount of extra money Sheffield schools will receive in their Pupil Premium funding this year. Ms Teather travelled to Sheffield to announce the extra cash for Sheffield children. 19,040 children from lowerincome backgrounds will receive a 600 bonus for their schools each. The Pupil Premium is widely seen as one of the Lib Dems most popular policies. It works by giving extra funding for every child on free school meals. Schools can then spend the money however they like. Ms Teather said, My message to parents in Sheffield is to urge them to make a claim if they think their children may be eligible for free school meals, to make sure their children do not miss out on extra funding from the Pupil Premium. Local MP and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said, This idea is so important to me I put it on the front page of our manifesto. Im very proud to have been able to deliver it in government. It will help improve life chances for children across Sheffield, helping not just those from more deprived backgrounds but their classmates too. This years allocation is more than expected and is expected to rise even further next year.

UNION FURY:
Our members needed hope and a reason to vote Labour... they have been snatched away.

Standing up for rural Sheffield: Katie Condliffe is fighting to protect the local green belt from Labours town-hall bosses.
Katie Condliffe, a Lib Dem parish councillor living in Loxley, is campaigning against Labours plans to build on local green-belt land in Stannington. Labour councillors recently brushed aside a campaign by local residents to stop hundreds of new houses being built on the old Loxley College site, and gave the plans their approval.
The old college site is an eyesore and it needs to be sorted out. But we must avoid development that will strain local infrastructure, and we have to protect our green belt. This is just the start. I wont stop campaigning to force Labours town-hall bosses to listen to local peoples views.
Ms Condliffe said, Its a disgrace that Labour are ignoring local peoples views.
Lib Dem success for local drivers: Lib Dem councillors Colin Ross (right) and Joe Otten are delighted that the Lib Dems have secured money from the government for a park-and-ride in Dore.
