Do not expose charger to rain or snow. Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by the battery charger manufacturer may result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons. To reduce risk of damage to electric plug and cord, pull by plug rather than cord when disconnecting charger. An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS Consider having someone close enough by to come to your aid when you work near a lead-acid battery. Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts skin, clothing, or eyes. Wear complete eye protection and clothing protection. Avoid touching eyes while working near battery. If battery acid contacts skin or clothing, wash immediately with soap and water. If acid enters eye, immediately flood eye with running cold water for at least 10 minutes and get medical attention immediately. NEVER smoke or allow a spark or flame in vicinity of battery or engine. Be extra cautious to reduce risk of dropping a metal tool onto battery. It might spark or short-circuit battery or other electrical part that may cause explosion. Remove personal metal items such as rings, bracelets, necklaces, and watches when working with a lead-acid battery. A lead-acid battery can produce a short-circuit current high enough to weld a ring or the like to metal, causing a severe burn. Use charger for charging a LEAD-ACID battery only. It is not intended to supply power to a low voltage electrical system other than in a starter-motor application. Do not use battery charger for charging dry-cell batteries that are commonly used with home appliances. These batteries may burst and cause injury to persons and damage to property. NEVER charge a frozen battery. PREPARING TO CHARGE If necessary to remove battery from vehicle to charge, always remove grounded terminal from battery first. Make sure all accessories in the vehicle are off, so as not to cause an arc. Be sure area around battery is well ventilated while battery is being charged. Clean battery terminals. Be careful to keep corrosion from coming in contact with eyes. Add distilled water in each cell until battery acid reaches level specified by battery manufacturer. Do not overfill. For a battery without removable cell caps, such as valve regulated lead acid batteries, carefully follow manufacturers recharging instructions. Study all battery manufacturers specific precautions while charging and recommended rates of charge. Determine voltage of battery by referring to vehicle owners manual and make sure that output voltage selector switch is set at correct voltage. If charger has adjustable charge rate, charge battery initially at lowest rate.

CHARGER LOCATION Locate charger as far away from battery as DC cables permit. Never place charger directly above battery being charged; gases from battery will corrode and damage charger. Never allow battery acid to drip on charger when reading electrolyte specific gravity or filling battery. Do not operate charger in a closed-in area or restrict ventilation in any way. Do not set a battery on top of charger. DC CONNECTION PRECAUTIONS Connect and disconnect DC output clips only after setting any charger switches to off position and removing AC cord from electric outlet. Never allow clips to touch each other. Attach clips to battery and chassis, as indicated in 6.5, 6.6, and 7.2 through 7.4. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WHEN BATTERY IS INSTALLED IN VEHICLE. Position AC and DC cords to reduce risk of damage by hood, door, or moving engine part. Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys, and other parts that can cause injury to persons. Check polarity of battery posts. POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery post usually has larger diameter than NEGATIVE (NEG, N,) post. Determine which post of battery is grounded (connected) to the chassis. If negative post is grounded to chassis (as in most vehicles), see (6.5). If positive post is grounded to the chassis, see (6.6). For negative-grounded vehicle, connect POSITIVE (RED) clip from battery charger to POSITIVE (POS, P, +) ungrounded post of battery. Connect NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip to vehicle chassis or engine block away from battery. Do not connect clip to carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet-metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block. For positive-grounded vehicle, connect NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip from battery charger to NEGATIVE (NEG, N, ) ungrounded post of battery. Connect POSITIVE (RED) clip to vehicle chassis or engine block away from battery. Do not connect clip to carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet-metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block.

When disconnecting charger, turn switches to off, disconnect AC cord, remove clip from vehicle chassis, and then remove clip from battery terminal. See OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS for length of charge information. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WHEN BATTERY IS OUTSIDE VEHICLE. A SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY MAY CAUSE BATTERY EXPLOSION. Check polarity of battery posts. POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery post usually has a larger diameter than NEGATIVE (NEG, N, ) post. Attach at least a 24-inch-long 6-gauge (AWG) insulated battery cable to NEGATIVE (NEG, N, ) battery post. Connect POSITIVE (RED) charger clip to POSITIVE (POS, P, +) post of battery. Position yourself and free end of cable as far away from battery as possible then connect NEGATIVE (BLACK) charger clip to free end of cable. Do not face battery when making final connection. When disconnecting charger, always do so in reverse sequence of connecting procedure and break first connection while as far away from battery as practical. A marine (boat) battery must be removed and charged on shore. To charge it onboard requires equipment specially designed for marine use.

BATTERY CHARGING - AC CONNECTIONS For all grounded cord-connected battery chargers: GROUNDING AND AC POWER CORD CONNECTION INSTRUCTIONS Charger should be grounded to reduce risk of electric shock. Charger is equipped with an electric cord having an equipmentgrounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. DANGER Never alter AC cord or plug provided if it will not fit outlet, have proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Improper connection can result in a risk of an electric shock.

For grounded, cord-connected battery chargers with an input rating less than 15 amperes and intended for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit: This battery charger is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit, and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in sketch A in Figure 8.4. A temporary adapter, which looks like the adapter illustrated in sketches B and C, may be used to connect this plug to a two-pole receptacle as shown in sketch B if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet can be installed by a qualified electrician. DANGER Before using adapter as illustrated, be certain that center screw of outlet plate is grounded. The green-colored rigid ear or lug ex tending from adapter must be connected to a properly grounded outlet make certain it is grounded. If necessary, replace original outlet cover plate screw with a longer screw that will secure adapter ear or lug to outlet cover plate and make ground connection to grounded outlet.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

It is important to fully assemble your charger before use. Follow these instructions for easy assembly. PARTS TOOLS NEEDED Two, 10 -32 thread cut ting 3/8" wrench (for mounting screws foot) Four, 1/4-20 thread cutting 5/16" wrench (for wheels) screws Two wheels One axle Two axle caps Two axle brackets One handle One handle grip One mounting foot 9.1 Attach Foot: Remove charger from packing materials and place charger top down. Attach mounting foot and secure with the four, 1/4-20 thread cutting screws provided. Hammer Screwdriver (for handle assembly)

Axle Assembly: Hold axle upright on floor or work surface. Then, using a hammer, tap one of the axle caps onto the top end of the axle. Be sure to tap the hub on straight. Slide both wheels onto the axle with the hubs facing inward. Tap the other axle cap onto the opposite end of the axle and place the axle assembly onto the bottom of the charger.

Axle Assembly: Place the charger on its side. Place one end of each bracket into slot, then place the axle assembly under each bracket. Fasten the other side of each bracket using the two, 10-32 thread cutting screws provided.

Handle: Turn the charger right side up onto its foot and wheels. Verify grip and handle clamp rod are installed on the handle. Remove the two top screws from each side of the charger. Align the handle so the screw holes are aligned with the screw holes on each side of the wheel charger. Attach handle using the same screws.

10.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

10.1

SELECT CHARGE RATE The CHARGE RATE SELECTOR allows you to select the correct amp draw rate to match your charging needs. Read the following operating instructions for making the proper settings for charging a battery. When you first start charging a battery, the amp reading will be high. As the battery becomes charged, the reading will decrease. To determine the amount of amps being drawn by the battery: a. Press the Select Display Mode button until the AMPS LED lights. b. When the 55A setting is used, the charger switches between 55A boost mode and 10A mode. You should use a lower charge setting if the voltage reading is OL or is reading higher than 14.2 Volts for more than 3 minutes and you are not in automatic mode. c. When charging at 20 amps, the display should show 20 amps for a discharged battery and 7-8 amps for a fully charged battery. You should stop charging the battery at this time if you are using the manual mode. d. At the 2 amp charge rate, little or no display change will occur.

10.2

TIMER The timer is designed to allow the battery to be charged for a designated amount of time. To accurately charge your battery, you must know the size of the battery in ampere hours or reserve capacity in units, as well as the state of charge. Since this information is not known by the charger, the timer limit is set at 2.25 hours to prevent the battery from overcharging to a point where it can be severely damaged. If you do not know the charge state of your battery, set the timer at one hour or less, or use the automatic setting.

TO SET THE TIMER a. Press the symbol for less time and the symbol for more time. b. The Timer LED will light and digital display will show the time in minutes. c. To turn the timer off, press the symbol until the digital display reads OFF.

10.4

TIMER HOLD The Timer Hold feature overrides the timer allowing the charger to continue charging for over 135 minutes. This feature is most often used when the charging rate is 2 amps. Using this feature requires closely monitoring the charge time and turning off the charger when the battery is fully charged. NOTE: When the battery is fully charged, the charger and timer will not automatically turn off. It is important to monitor the charge level. Not doing so may cause damage to your battery.

10.5

TO ACTIVATE THE HOLD FEATURE a. Press the symbol until the Digital Display reads HLD. b. To release the Timer Hold, press the until the digital display reads OFF.

10.6

AUTOMATIC FEATURE In automatic mode, the charger will stop when the battery is fully charged. After charging is complete, this unit will maintain the battery at 13.4 Volts to prevent self discharge. To activate the automatic feature, connect to the battery following the instructions in section 6 or 7 and select the desired charge rate. Then, press the symbol once and Aut will be shown on the display. When charging is complete, the battery % will show 100.

BATTERY TEST The Battery Test is based on the terminal voltage of the battery. If the battery is installed in the vehicle, make sure the engine and all accessories are turned off before testing. a. Hook the battery clamps to the battery as outlined in the Charging Your Battery section 6 or 7. b. Plug the power cord into a 3-prong electrical wall outlet. c. Press the SWITCH to FAST/TRICKLE CHARGE/TEST. d. Press the SELECT DISPLAY MODE button and select CHARGE %. 12V Battery Voltages 100% 50-95% <50% 12.8 or more volts 12.8-12.2 volts 12.2 or less volts Charged battery Battery needs charging Discharged battery - needs charging

BATTERY/ALTERNATOR TEST a. Hook the battery clamps to the battery as outlined in section 6 or 7. b. Plug the power cord into a 3-prong electrical wall outlet. c. Press the SWITCH to FAST/TRICKLE CHARGE/TEST. d. Press the SELECT DISPLAY MODE button and select VOLTAGE.

e. Start the engine, and while it is at a fast idle, read the digital display. NOTE: If the digital display reads less than 12.8 volts, the charging system may have loose fan belts, a defective voltage regulator or alternator. Additional tests may be required to find the exact cause. Take the vehicle to a qualified service center. 10.9 ENGINE START The Engine Start is a feature to help start the engine of your vehicle. a. Hook the battery clamps to the battery as outlined in section 6 or 7. b. Plug the power cord into a 3-prong electrical wall outlet. c. Press switch to the RAPID CHARGE/ENGINE START setting. d. Press CHARGE RATE SELECTOR button until 150A is selected. e. Push the symbol located in the Timer section until the number 5 is displayed. f. Crank the engine for no more than 3 seconds. If it does not start, wait three minutes before cranking again for no more than 3 seconds. NOTE: During extremely cold weather, or if the battery is severely exhausted, charge the battery for about 5 minutes in the 55 amp setting before cranking the engine. g. After the engine starts, turn OFF the charger, put switch in OFF position and unplug the power cord from the AC wall outlet. h. Disconnect the output clamps from the battery. i. Clean and store the unplugged charger in a dry location. IMPORTANT: Do not try to start the engine without a battery in it. You could cause damage to the electrical system. If the engine does turn over, but never starts, there is not a problem with the starting system. There is a problem somewhere else with the vehicle. STOP cranking the engine until the other problem has been diagnosed and corrected.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS Before performing maintenance, unplug and disconnect battery charger (see sections 6.7 or 7.6). After use, use a dry cloth to wipe all battery corrosion and other dirt or oil from terminals, cords, and the charger case. Servicing does not require opening unit, as there are no user-serviceable parts. STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS Store charger unplugged, in an upright condition. Cord will still conduct electricity until it is unplugged from outlet. Store inside, in a dry, cool place. Do not store clips on handle, clipped together, on or around metal, or clipped to cables.

TROUBLESHOOTING
POSSIBLE CAUSE Clips are not making a good connection. SOLUTION Check for poor connection at battery. Make sure clamps and posts are clean. Battery may not want to accept a charge due to excessive run down state. Digital Display may show no activity at the 2 amp setting.

PROBLEM Zero Amps on Digital Display.

2 amp charge rate being used.

No reading on Digital Display and charger fan is not working.

AC cord and/or extension is loose. Poor electrical connection. Switch is in OFF position.

Check AC outlet and extension cords for loose fitting plug. Check for open fuse or circuit breaker supplying AC outlet. Turn Switch on. Circuit breaker cycles when current draw is too high. Separate the clamps. Check for worn cables and replace if needed. Correct connections. Correct Selector setting.

Circuit breaker in charger cycles on and off with a clicking sound.

Shorted battery clamps.

Shorted battery. Charger leads reversed. CHARGE RATE SELECTOR button set to an incorrect range. Short start cycle when cranking engine. Drawing more than 150 amps for a period equal to or less than 3 seconds.

Crank time varies with the amount of current drawn. If cranking draws more than 150 amps, crank time may be less than 3 seconds. Wait 3 minutes before next crank. Use shorter or heavier gauge extension cord. Sulfated battery will eventually take a normal charge after a period of time. If the battery will not take a charge, have a qualified technician test the battery. Continue to charge battery. Continue charging. Buzz is not abnormal.

Failure to wait for 3 minutes (180 seconds) between cranks. Digital Display reads less than selected charge rate when charging a discharged battery. Extension cord too long or wire gauge is too small. Weak cell or sulfated plate in battery.

The battery is only partially discharged. Charger makes a loud buzz or hum. Transformer laminations vibrate (buzz). 13

martimo. 8. 8.1 CARGA DE BATERIA - CONEXIONES AC Para todo tipo de cargadores de bateras con conexin a tierra. INSTRUCCIONES PARA LA CONEXIN DE CABLES DE CA Y A TIERRA - El cargador debe estar conectado a tierra para evitar el riesgo de una descarga elctrica. El cargador est equipado con un cable elctrico que lleva un conductor interno para la corriente a tierra, as como en la clavija. La clavija debe estar conectada al tomacorriente, el cual debe estar instalado apropiadamente de acuerdo con todas normas y cdigos locales. PELIGRO-Nunca altere el cable de CA o la clavija del equipo. En caso de que no encaje la clavija en el tomacorriente, instale uno adecuado, por un electricista calificado. Una mal conexin puede dar como resultado una descarga elctrica. 8.2 Para cargadores de bateras con conexin a tierra con tipo de entrada de menos de 15 amperios y para ser usado en circuito nominal de 120 voltios: Este cargador de bateras debe usarse en circuito nominal de 120 voltios, y tiene una clavija como la ilustracin A en el dibujo 8.4. Un adaptador, como el ilustrado en los dibujos B y C, puede ser utilizado temporalmente, para conectar la clavija al receptculo bipolar como se muestra en el dibujo B si no existe un tomacorriente adecuado. INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACIN

10.1

SELECTOR DE INDICE DE CARGA El SELECT CHARGE RATE le permite escoger y la tasa de amperios recibidos correctos para conformar a sus necesidades de carga. Lea las siguientes instrucciones de operacin para fijar las graduaciones correctas para cargar la batera. Al primero comenzar a cargar una batera, la lectura de amperios ser alta. A medida que la batera se vaya cargando, la lectura baja. Para calcular la cantidad de amperios que la batera est recibiendo: Oprima el botn de SELECT DISPLAY MODE hasta que se enciende el AMPS LED. a. Cuando se usa la posicin 55A, el cargador intercambia entre el modo de aumento de 55A y el modo de 10A. Se debe usar una

posicin de carga ms baja si la lectura de voltaje es OL o si la lectura sigue superior a 14,2 voltios por ms de 3 minutos. b. Al estar cargando a 20 amperios, la pantalla debe mostrar 15 amperios para una batera descargada y 7-8 amperios para una batera a plena carga. En ese momento se debe dejar de cargar la batera. c. A la tasa de carga de 2 amperios, se ocurre poco o ningn cambio en la pantalla. 10.2 TEMPORIZADOR La funcin del timer es de permitir que se cargue la batera por un perodo designado de tiempo. Para cargar la batera en forma correcta, hay que saber el tamao de la batera en horas amperios o capacidad de reserva en minutos, as como el estado de la carga. Puesto que el cargador no conoce esta informacin, el timer se ha limitado a 2.25 horas para evitar que la batera se sobrecargue hasta un punto donde puede quedar severamente daada. Si no se conoce la tasa de carga de su batera, ponga el cronometrador en una hora o menos, o fije el cargador para funcionar en modo automtico. 10.3 PARA PONER EL TIMER a.Oprima el smbolo para menos tiempo y el smbolo para ms tiempo. b. La luz LED del timer se enciende y la pantalla digital muestra el tiempo en minutos. c. Para apagar el temporizador, oprima el smbolo hasta que la pantalla digital muestre OFF. 10.4 Retener el Temporizador La funcin de Retener el Temporizador contrarresta la funcin del timer, y as permite operacin continua por ms de 2.25 horas. Esto normalmente es el caso al seleccionar la tasa de carga de 2 amperios o de 20 amperios. El uso de esta funcin requiere vigilar cuidadosamente el tiempo de cargo y apagar el cargador cuando la batera est a plena carga. NOTA: Cuando la batera est a plena carga, el cargador y el temporizador no se apagan automticamente. Es importante vigiar el nivel de carga. Funcin Automtica En modo automtico, el cargador se para cuando la batera llega a plena carga. Despus de que la carga est completa, la unidad mantiene la batera a 13,4 voltios para evitar descarga espontnea. Para activar la funcin automtica, primero conecte las pinzas a la batera y seleccione la tasa de carga deseada. Luego, oprima una vez el smbolo de y se muestra Aut en la pantalla. Al completarse la carga, el % de batera muestra 100.

IMPORTATNTE: No trates de estarear el motor sin batera, puede causar dao al sistema electrico. Si el motor estarea, pero no arranca, no hay ningn problema con el sistema de estarear hay algn otro probelma con el vehculo. Deja de estarear el motor asta que el problema sea diagnosticado y correjido.

INSTRUCCIONES DE MANTENIMIENTO Luego del uso, utilice un pao seco para limpiar la corrosin de la batera y la suciedad o aceite de los terminales, cables y la caja del cargador (6.7, 7.6). Los cables se deben enrollar cuando el cargador no se est utilizando para evitar daarlos. El personal de mantenimiento calificado debe llevar a cabo otros tipos de mantenimiento. ALMACENAJE Gurdese desconectado el cargador en forma vertical. El cable conduce carga hasta que es desconectado del tomacorriente. Gurdese en un lugar seco y recomendable (al menos que se est usando un cargador Marino a bordo). No se sujeten las pinzas a la agarradera, ni las sujete una con otra, ni al metal o a los cables.
