Date/Time: 3-5-12, 3rd,5th,7th Hour Grade Level: 9th 12th grade Lesson Focus:Exhibition Game play (Offensive Strategies)

Student Objectives: 1. (psychomotor) Students will be able to dribble, pass, and shoot the ball during the game. 2. (cognitive) Students will be able to recall the rules of Handball to play the game effectively. 3. (affective) Students will be able to be attentive while the teacher is giving instructions and reviewing the rules of the game. National Standards: Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning performance of physical activities. ISBE Standards: 19.A.2 Demonstrate control when performing combinations and sequences in locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative motor patterns. 19.B.2 Identify the principles of movement (e.g., absorption and application of force, equilibrium). Safety: Students will pay attention to their surroundings at all times. Students will follow the teachers instructions. Students will use the equipment appropriately. Students will play by the rules, which will limit aggressive play. Students who do not follow the safety rules will be removed from the game. In case of an injury, the first aid kid is in the gym office.

Health Related Fitness (HRF) Component & Activities that Support Learning of HRF: Cardiovascular Endurance and Muscle Endurance: Team Handball game play will help develop cardiovascular endurance because the students will be constantly running back and forth on the court to play offense and defense. It will also help develop muscular endurance in their legs and throwing arm from constantly running and shooting the ball. Set Induction: (3 minutes) Go over the agenda for the period Review rules of the game Pick someone to lead the stretches for the period Suggest a few offensive strategies for them to try in game o Breaking a man defense or zone defense o Making the extra pass for an open shot o Show them the alley-oop play Management: Have students get into their stretching circle Activity 1: Stretching (3 minutes) The volunteer will lead the students through the stretching routine. Management: Split students up into 2 teams. Each team will have half of the court to warm-up on. Activity 2: Warm-up with dribbling, passing, and shooting (5 minutes) Task Development Extensions (E): Increase/Decrease distance between partner when passing Increase/Decrease distance from the goal when shooting Increase/Decrease number of dribbles and speed of dribbling Refinements (R): Keep your head up while dribbling Be accurate with your passing, hit your partner in the chest Aim for the corners of the goal, not the center Application (A): The team who has done the warm-up correctly will have a better chance at winning the game Management: Determine who is starting and who is subbing first. Collect all the balls besides the game ball. Get teams ready to start the game with a jump ball. Activity 3: Game play. Referees will call fouls and turnovers. (10-15 minutes) Task Development Extensions (E): Increase number of passes before being able to score a goal When catching the ball, you must dribble at least once to pass

Refinements (R): Be accurate with your passing, hit your partner in the chest Aim for the corners of the goal, not the center See the ball and your man at all times Application (A): The team that scores the most goals is the winner. (the team that has accurate passes, fewer turnovers, and shares the ball will most likely win) Management: Bring everyone together for closure. After closure, have students place jerseys in the bag. Closure: Review the rules of the game that students violated the most Continue exhibition game play next time we meet
