PREFACE
This standard was prepared under the authority of the Plastics Standards Board and is
one of a series relating to PTFE products.
Attention is drawn to Clause 7 in which it is pointed out that the tape may not be
suitable for use in certain critical applications, e.g. where contact with high
concentrates of gaseous or liquid oxygen is involved.

2 COMPOSITION.
2.2 Lubricant. The lubricant used in the manufacture of the tape shall be such that
any residue left in the tape will be entirely removed under the conditions of test for
the determination of residual lubricant content (see Appendix C).
NOTES:
1. PTFE undergoes a transit ion duri ng which there is a signifi cant volume change in the material. The
majori ty of this change occurs between 19 and 20°C.
2. PTFE does not absorb moisture so no requir ement for control of humidit y is requir ed.
4.1 Appearance. The unsintered tape, when viewed by reflected light, shall appear
white.
4.2 Defects. The tape shall be free from obvious inclusions and shall not show any
surface or edge defects which may affect its suitability for use.
