LEO LINO MONTHERMOSO ALMERIA, FPIID

INTERIOR DESIGNER

LEO LINO M. ALMERIA, FPIID, a native of Tacloban City, graduated from the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID). He is an active member (College of Fellows) of the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID). He started his designing career in 1978 under the guidance of the famous Edith L. Oliveros, PIID. In 1987 he became an Associate Interior Designer of Russell Emmert, ASID and furniture designer for E.M. et cie in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. Upon his return from the United States in 1988, he started his own design office, the Leo Almeria Design Studio (LADS). Lately, he has been specializing in product designing employing indigenous materials which involves design development and manufacture of home and office furniture and accessories like lamps, trays, boxes, etc. Mr.Almeria has taught design courses at the College of St. Benilde, De La Salle University, and at the Philippine School of Interior Design. He has also been invited to give talks and participate in many design seminars and conventions here and abroad. His recent speaking engagements included lectures at the Malaysian Furniture Fair 2005 (Kuala Lumpur), the 10th American Hardwood Southeast Asia and Greater China Convention (Beijing, China) and the International Furniture and Design Objects Fair in Bangkok, Thailand. Last October 2, 2002, The Philippine School of Interior Design on its 35 th Anniversary accorded him a tribute-exhibit in recognition for his achievements in the field of interior and product design. Likewise, on January 15, 2006, An Waray Party List and the People of Region VIII (Leyte-Samar/ Biliran) awarded him the honor as Most Outstanding Leyteo in acknowledgement of his achievements in the field of Fine Arts (Interior Design). Mr. Almerias projects have been regularly featured in major dailies and magazines like Mega, My Home, Sense and Style, Blu Print and the Philippine Tatler. He contributed for the magazines Womans Home Companion and Design & Architecture. Recently, his works were included in the books Tropical Interiors published (Periplus), Real Home Ideas (Summit Publishing Co., Inc.) and At Home with Filipino Art and Artists (Anvil Publishing, Inc Santa Barbara Publishing Corp.).
