Since a renovation of Bowling Greens beloved Capitol Theater on Fountain Square was completed
in 1981, the Capitol, along with
Van Meter Auditorium at
Western Kentucky University,
stood as Bowling Greens
primary venues for major
performing arts activities,
especially those touring from
outside the region. However, by
the end of the next decade it was
becoming clear that the Capitol
had built an audience for larger
productions than Bowling Green
could accommodate.
A group of concerned civic
leaders, not only interested in
creating a new, larger venue for
the Performing Arts, but also
creating an attraction that would
help stimulate downtown
development, sought support for
such a center. In July 2000,
Warren County created the
Southern Kentucky Performing
Arts Center, Inc. (SKyPAC) to
accept a 6.7 Million dollar
appropriation from the
Commonwealth of Kentucky
designed to fund early
architectural and feasibility
studies, acquire land, hire
architects and fund early
operating costs.
SKyPAC anchors downtown
Bowling Greens continued
emergence as the economic hub
of Warren County and the
surrounding nine counties that
make up the Barren River Area
Development District.
The 1800-seat main theater is
the home of Orchestra Kentucky
and the largest space of its kind
in South Central Kentucky, with
the capacity to bring a vibrant new array of
high-end professional productions, including
Broadway shows, nationally known Country,
Bluegrass and Newgrass performers, virtuoso
classical musicians and dance companies, as
well as comedians and lectures.
A 200-seat studio theater is the ideal place to enjoy blues and jazz performances, professional
black box theater productions, and performances by school groups or one of Bowling Greens many
accomplished local theater companies.
SKyPACs art galleries are dedicated to showcasing the best of local and regional artists.
SKyPAC is a place where artists of all abilities, art forms, and backgroundschildren and adults
alikeare able to engage in a lifelong process of learning and creating.

Matchdaddy
Matchdaddy is a
group of four guys
who were tired of life
on the run and the
Fugitive lifestyle. The
term Matchdaddy is
derived from the nickname of
lead singer Steve Wilson in high school. At the
time, he was thin and had a mop of red hair that
resembled a match on fire. Thus the nickname of
match that morphed over the years to
Matchdaddy. Nowadays he no longer resembles
a match; the hair is gone and what was a stick
looks more like a stump, but the fire to play music
still remains.
So, why the name M atchdaddy ? The answer is
why not, plus the name ZZ Top was already taken!
Matchdaddy is Steve Wilson (lead vocals/
rhythm guitar), Tim Doc Hulsey (lead guitar),
Mike Hildreth (bass guitar) and Jim DeCesare
(drums), good friends whove been playing music
together for over 10 years with a popular large
band. They decided they wanted to do something
smaller with different types of music everyone
knows and loves. Their goal is to entertain you
and have a large time whenever they perform.
Matchdaddy performs Wednesday, June 13 at
noon in Fountain Square Park.

Culture of Creatures
Local 14-year-old music standouts Jack
Atkerson - lead guitar, Sam Kernohan - bass
guitar, Peyton Burt - drums, and Flora Nye -
lead vocals and rhythm guitar comprise the
youngest professional rock band youre likely
to hear.
Entering their 3rd year performing shows together,
these kids dreamed up the notion of forming a rock band while their peers were playing video games, and after
some individual and group study with local (Royal) music instructor Jordan Weiss, made that dream a rockin
reality. Theyve played many local venues such as Wha Bah Saloon, Spencers Coffee House, and State St Pub, as
well as a variety of local and school functions and fund-raisers, and took 2nd prize overall in the first annual
Bellewoodstock Youth Music Competition at the Capitol Arts Theater. Currently working with Weiss on finishing
the writing for their first cd, to be out by the years end, they are constantly adding new original s to their set, as
well as their takes on new and classic Rock n Roll tunes.
Peace of Mind
Peace of mind is a local band from Bowling Green and are an up
and coming that does a mixture of blues, rock and alternative. The
band has played for about two years together, with the addition of
drummer Will about a year ago. The band started playing open mic
and teen jams at Wha Bah, gained popularity, and became somewhat
known on the local scene. The band is strongly influenced by Cage the
Elephant and Morning Teleportation (both local bands who are gaining
notoriety in the national music industry), but also by Led Zeppelin,
Blind Melon and Bob Dylan.
Band members are Daniel Shultz - Lead Vocals, Mark Lowry - Guitar/vocals, Clayton Gipson - Guitar /vocals,
Mac Slattery - Bass/vocals and Will Houchin- Drums.
See both bands at Teen Night, July 27 at Fountain Square Park.

Andy and the Rockers
Andy and The Rockers is a Blues, Funk, Soul, Rock, Country, Gospel and R&B
band. WOW! That is the only way to describe this predominately Modern Country
group with multi-genre tones, who are determined to please a wide variety of
audiences and venues. The Rockers include: Tony Tanaro; Clint Childress; Randy
Thomas; Jenny Brown;
Fenner Castner and of
course Andy (Andrea
Tanaro). They have been performing together most of
their lives. All raised in Kentucky, they add a distinct
rootsy feel to any song they play. But, dont let the
bare feet fool ya! This band likes to rock out and
get funky, even when they are laying down the
Blues! Along with Andys high-energy vocals,
harmonica, piano and guitar, and an endless brain
full of lyrics, this band sports twin guitarists, an
explosive rhythm section and four-part harmony.
With a combination of credited, high-end musicians
their play list is virtually endless.
Andy and The Rockers is not only a cover band
that can play a variety of different types of music and venues to match, they also write and produce their own
songs. The band recently finished an All Original hard hitting country album and love to perform t heir songs
live whenever the opportunity is given. They have recently shared the stage with Starship, The Ken tucky
Headhunters, T Graham Brown, Lori Morgan and Ronnie McDowell, to name a few, and played a guest spot
on the Music City Late Show. The group is very hopeful that one day their hard work and determinatio n will
lead them to be recognized artists in the music industry .
Andy and The Rockers is a dynamic show band that is fun to watch! Their onstage antics make them a
crowd-pleasing favorite! Their ability to capture an audience and leave them wanting more comes from a
down home vibe with a classy touch. Andy and The Rockers are nothing short of an action packed bla st ALL
NIGHT LONG! Join them at the Duncan Hines Festival August 10.

Mt Victor Revue
Ernie Small and Chris Durbin started singing together in the early 1990s at high
school soccer matches, where they would sing the National Anthem together
a cappella. Ernie was a local musician who had maintained his highly successful
band The Ernie Small Blues Band for over 30 years in the Bowling Green area.
Chris started playing in the local bars in 1975 for a couple of years, then married
and got involved in sports coaching and officiating for the next 30+ years. He
limited his playing and singing to his church, weddings, funerals, cookouts, and
family events, etc. Liking the sound they were producing, Ernie and Chris began per-
forming at nursing homes and local festivals with other musicians. Describing their style as Bluegra ss/Gospel/
Rock, they played together as the No Name Band for about two years as the fluid band began to stab ilize.
Adding longtime Blues Band member Eddie Mills (Bass), Dr. Bruce Kessler from WKU (Guitar, Songwri ter, and
Vocals) and local musician Bob Bridges (Fiddle and Vocals) to the band rounded out the sound with Er nie
(Guitar, Mandolin, and Vocals) and Chris (Guitar, Banjo, Vocals).
The band started practicing regularly at The Warehouse at Mt Victor and from that came their na me, Mt
Victor Revue.
Rhythm Recycled is the brainchild of Jacob Howard, who came up with the name after realizing in e ssence, we
look to Recycle miscellaneous items, why not music?
Not choosing to utilize the standard approach to seeking cover tunes, i.e. the hits the members of Rhythm
Recycled have eclectic tastes, but also choose to seek tunes most everyone has heard, but likely not in a while,
which will entertain and get people moving. Song selection ranges from classic rock from the 60s to today, New
Wave as well as R&B, hard rock and country.
Band members are the following: Jacob Jake Howard, lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitar. Larry V. Barnes,
lead/background vocals and drums. Clint Driftwood Greer, bass, background/lead vocals. James Hoffm an, rhythm
guitar, background/lead vocals.
Available for club dates as well as parties, please contact Jacob Howard (270) 202-3121 or Larry V. Barnes (270)

The Songfarmers
The Songfarmers from Franklin,
Kentucky have already become, according to
Dr. Erika Brady who hosts the WKYU radio
show, Barren River Breakdown, ....a force to
be reckoned with.... in the world of
Americana Music. Their music inspires
audiences with a combination of instruments
blending in melodic purity which can only be accomplished by seasoned
artists with a love for playing Americana music. The lyrics are honest,
heartwarming and real. The groups founder, Tommy Johnson, brings
these wonderful songs to life with passionate performances that only a
true artist can achieve. This family of musicians has created an amazing
work of art that can be felt in the soul.
The original compositions and the driving force behind The Song
Farmers is Tommy Johnson. Johnsons musical experience can only be
described as eclectic. He has been a musical icon in genres ranging from
rock to bluegrass, finally returning to his country roots. He plays the lead
and rhythm guitar, bass, mandolin, Dobro, autoharp, concertina, 5 string banjo and vocals.
Graham Hudspeth plays bass and Irish Bouzouki with the group. Hudspeth is a multi-instrumentalist , vocalist and songwriter
who has performed locally and abroad since the mid 1960s. Though rooted in progressive rock, his ta lents have spanned many
genres and decades.
Shane Johnson is the youngest member of The Songfarmers and lends his multi-faceted talents to th e unique sound of the
group. Johnson plays the electric guitar, acoustic guitar and does vocals for the group. He honed hi s skills playing drums in high
school bands and performs and writes songs for his other musical endeavors.
The pedal steel is played by Phillip Montgomery. Phillip has been playing guitar for over 45 year s. He started playing steel guitar
20 years ago but began playing seriously in the past 4 years. His main influences are The Byrds, The Beatles and The Rolling
Stones.
Banny Pinson plays the banjo as his contribution to The Songfarmers. He plays a warm no frills style banjo while still allowing
his gentle spirit to flow through his music. Pinsons sense of humor and personality are a vital par t of this amazing group.
The precise rhythm of the drums is performed by Webb Hendrix. Hendrix plays for not only The Song farmers, but the Bowling
Green Chamber Orchestra, Hillvue Heights Church, and Living Hope Church. Webbs incredible talent ke eps him in high demand
in the local music scene. They will be performing July 6 in Fountain Square Park.

E. J. Rider Band
The E.J. Rider Band plays 50s and 60s doo
wop, old and new country, as well as many
original songs. They are a really unique duo
that have an unforgettable act. They are two
guys that have the ability to sound like four (or
more). E.J. plays drums and keeps time with just
his feet while playing lead and rhythm guitar. He also has a superior
voice that sounds somewhere between Johnny Cash, Elvis, and
Conway, but with a style of his own.George Jr isnt shabby either. While
singing his beautiful harmonies and lead vocals, he plays all bass runs
with his left hand, and any other sound you need with his right. From
piano, to organ, even sax and flute, Georges magic boxes have it all
and more. Join The E.J. Rider Band in Fountain Square Park, Wednesday, June 20 at noon.

Fat Box
Fat Box plays a unique blend of Rock, Funk, Blues, and Jazz.
They occasionally venture into the avant-garde but never lose
sight of the groove. Their music features distinct, soulful
vocals, fiery improvisations, and songs that dont conform to
predictable formulas. Fat Box is best seen and heard live.
When asked about influences, they mention everything from Miles Davis and
Maceo Parker to Eric Dolphy and Grant Green. Within a minute, were discussing
what choice of covers that they might play on a given night, which includes Pink
Floyd, King Crimson, Widespread, the Beatles and Tom Waits. Frank Zappa and
Jimmy Page are also cited as major influences. In other words, anything goes.
Band members are: Murf Adams - Guitar/Vocals, Jonas Butler - Drums/Vocals,
Ryan Stiles - Sax, Clay Powell - Guitar/Vocals, Troy Mimms - Percussion, Paul
Hatchett - Bass. Rock out with Fat Box July 27 at Circus Square.

The Ernie Small Blues Band
The Ernie Small Blues Band has been entertaining the Bowling
Green community with a blend of blues, rock and jazz for over 30

long time
band mates,
Ernest Raymer, guitar, Jeff
Mollyhorn, alto sax, Kevin Briley,
trumpet, and more recent additions
Gary Graves, tenor sax, and Jeff
Jones on drums. The Blues Bands
sound has always included a strong
female vocalist; Randi Womack is
the current singer and she brings
an incredible voice and presence to
the stage.
Without question the longest
performing band in the area, the
Ernie Small Blues Band has played every venue and for every event that has included music.
The Blues Band has been a regular in Concert in the Park series, performing for nearly all 30
years. The atmosphere created by performing in downtown Bowling Green, before neighbors
and friends, is truly the most memorable and moving musical experience I have experienced
said Ernie Small. Enjoy the sounds of The Ernie Small Blues Band July 6 at Circus Square.

Skip Bond and the Fugitives
Skip Bond and the Fugitives have just started their 12

Tina Turner. The horn section is headed by the other original SB&F member Dave Gottfried on trombone , Randy Certain on
trumpet, flugel horn and piccolo trumpet and Clay Terry on saxophone.
The newest members to SB&F are John Givens on drums and vocals and Russ Allen on bass guitar. Both h ave played with

Shady Jake and The Upsetters likes to keep it
interesting. We are not the loudest band, not the
most unique, but we have lots of fun playing for
people who enjoy good music and good times.
Greg Williams got his first guitar and amp in 1960
as a gift from his cousin who ordered it but from a Sears catalog and
he learned to play from friends and listening to records. His primary
influence is Lonnie Mack, who set Williams musical track to blues, low
down honkey-tonk rock & roll. At the ripe old age of 59, Williams
started back playing with some friends, strictly as a hobby.
Tom Sullivan, a California native now living in Hartford Kentucky,
blows as mean and sweet a harp as you could want to find in a rockin
blues band.
Don Bunn started playing music in the late 80s. Since then its been a
blur for him. Bunns musical influences are Donald McCoy, Mike A
Milligan, Ed Shaughnessy, Ringo Starr, Michael Milligan, and Kenny
Aronoff. He joined the band last year. Playing drums has been his
passion since he saw Ringo on T.V. the first time.
Rick Mitchell has played bass since junior high. Mitchell has played
in rock bands, Jazz Band and Swing Choir in high school before putting
his axe in the closet for too many years. Once his kids were old enough,
the Kentucky Blues Society roped him in. Mitchells influences are Paul
McCartney, Duck Dunn, James Thomas Fielder and Leland Skiar.
Shotgun Shell Shaffer came to Kentucky from Texas, where he fronted Shotgun and the Bayou Dawg s. The
Kentucky Blues Society began having weekly jam sessions at Tidballs and drew him in; ironically She l, Mitchell and
Williams all played the very first jam session. Since then he has been an integral part of the uniq ue sound of
Shady Jake and the Upsetters. Not only does he add colorful guitar parts that complement those of hi s guitar
partner-in-crime, Greg, but he adds a fourth vocal and has plans to incorporate an occasional touch of keyboard to
future shows. The band will perform August 24 at Fountain Square Park.
