Purpose of the Course*: The purpose of this course is to help students acquire the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with human resource management so they are actually prepared to perform the essential functions that human resource professionals are expected to perform. After completing this course students will be able to: 1. Contract with a client and manage the consulting relationship. 2. Diagnose organizational problems using both quantitative and qualitative data and use these data to improve organizations. 3. Describe the legal restrictions governing discrimination in employment. 4. Develop a human resource plan and design a valid recruitment and selection system. 5. Develop and implement a performance evaluation system. 6. Assess training needs, design a training program, and evaluate it. 7. Grades: A 87 % and above B 77 C 67 D 60 F - <60 Presentations: Students will be required to make individual and group presentations on topics and issues assigned by instructor. Assignments: 3 major assignments (2 before and 1 after midterm) All assignments must be typed and submitted on the specified date. Assignments not turned in by the specified due date, will not be accepted. Only for very serious reasons they may be accepted but will be down graded by one letter grade. 15 days will be given to submit assignments after topic identification Attendance: Students are required to attend classes Regularly & Punctually. Any student who has more than 4 unexcused absences will be given a zero. Students absent for case studies, presentations and quizzes will get a zero. There will be NO make up quizzes. Late assignments will not be accepted. Project Report: A term paper (10-12) pages has to be submitted during the last week before the final examination (font size 12, single space). Students will have to select an organization with employees not less than 100 and business volume not less then 500 million PKR / annum. Students will have to identify and analyze Human Resource practices used in the organization. Students will have to give recommendations to the organization by identifying current pitfalls in companys Human Resource policy. STUDENT CONSULTATION: By appointment on email.
