Collection type (ALCEP, PMC, etc.) ii. ISSN iii. Journal Title iv. Electronic Holdings v. Print Holdings vi. To be Removed vii. Notes viii. Still have in print ix. Number of bound volumes x. Value xi. Total Cost (cost of journal + value of bound issues) xii. Previous Titles xiii. Catalog records updated xiv. Union lists updated b. Access to previous/continuing titles? 2. Count shelf space (we had to reach a specific goal due to lost library space) 3. Pull titles a. Southwest Solutions was hired to pull and shift volumes i. Items removed and taken to Collection Resources department ii. Items removed from catalog iii. Bound issues counted iv. Labeled withdrawn v. Southwest Solutions took items to recycling 4. Update records a. Add notes and update Millennium record b. Update holdings in union lists 5. Accounting a. Calculate value of journals recycled i. Pay cards (1970s-1998) ii. Outdated materials? a. i.e. directories 3. Government statistics a. Free online, add links 4. Local statistics a. Keep most and transfer to General collection 5. Dictionary/Encyclopedias a. Keep most current; weed previous b. Electronic available? Weed all 6. Handbooks a. Outdated? Cut down retention to most current Process 1. Research potential titles a. Create lists for items not with no circulation from 1999+ (life of the catalog) i. Is item historical or significant? ii. Nixon Candidate (Special Collections and Archives)? b. Look at books in surrounding area of books on list (same call number/subjects) 2. Pull titles a. Print lists by call number section b. Collection Resources go through lists; kept 1st, 3rd, and 6th editions (when applicable) c. Circulation employees pulled titles d. Collection Resources take holdings out of OCLC e. Kill record f. Determine value g. Book Giveaways h. Recycled or Dispose of the rest i. First monthly, then weekly as weeding progressed i. Southwest Solutions shifted remaining titles
