Operations Engineering Manager, ITT Power Solutions, West Springfield, Massachusetts Manufacturer of Military Power Systems for Night Vision, Military Vehicles, and Missile Systems

Oversaw the development and management of a newly formed Operations Engineering group for this leader in night vision power supplies. This group was responsible for coordinating the introduction of new product to operations through the creation of process routings, travelers, work instructions, process development/control, operator training, equipment selection and maintenance. Successfully managed an accelerated implementation of $500K capital equipment campaign. All equipment was procured and delivered on time and within budget. Supervised the daily activities of the operations group that included process engineers, manufacturing engineers, equipment technicians, tool room machinist, prototype technicians and interns. Provided daily management of the prototype group that was responsible for the fabrication of new product designs and low rate production of released products. Tasks included the creation of work instructions, assembly troubleshooting, work order scheduling and problem resolution. Implemented a preventive maintenance program to assure process control of over 150 processes, including surface mount assembly, aqueous cleaning, epoxy encapsulation, RTV encapsulation, X-Ray inspection, automated optical inspection, and environmental stress screening. 1995-2010

Manufacturing Engineering/Quality Manager, Omron Electronics, LLC, St Charles, Illinois Industrial Automation and Custom Solutions

Hands on management of all aspects of both the manufacturing engineering and quality departments for this $106M US-based division of Omron Corporation Industrial Automation business. Primary product lines included programmable controllers, photoelectric sensors, safety light curtains, and custom engineered solutions for the industrial automation market. Developed quality management system and assured its compliance to ISO9001:2008 standard. Reduced external audit non-conformance findings from an average 11 to less than 4 per audit in less than 6 months. Successfully negotiated IS9001 external audit frequency from 2 per year to 1 based on reduction of nonconformances cited. Prepared all departments within the organization for pending external ISO9001 and ISO14001 audits. Key team member for the introduction and implementation of lean manufacturing techniques. Participated in kaizen activities that resulted in a 30% increase in throughput and an 18% reduction in floor space.

Performed value stream analysis on fiber optic cable assembly, and implemented lean techniques which resulted in conversion from batch processing to a U-shaped flow process. This effort resulted in a 40% reduction in labor and 25% reduction in floor space. Created and managed a new product introduction program that assured timely release of new products through the manufacturing process. Program consisted of a cross-functional team and automated collection of relevant data for analysis of customer requirements and plant capacity. Time for new product introduction was reduced by 25%. Created employee training program to assure staff was properly trained to company procedures and policies, developed training matrix for all job classifications, wrote required training protocols and performed employee training classes. Developed and implemented a relational database management system to monitor, report and control the following areas: new product introduction, document control, project management, automated equipment setup, preventive maintenance, customer return material authorization, engineering change control, material inspection management, non-conforming material control, and capital equipment/asset management. 1991 - 1994

Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Omron Manufacturing of America, St Charles, Illinois Manufacturer of PLCs, Industrial Timers, Photoelectric Sensors, and Fiber Optic Cables

Created the manufacturing engineering function for this newly created production facility which was conceived to address the US market in a more timely manner. Developed and implemented lean, flow through, flexible assembly cell for the assembly of safety light curtains. Reduce takt time from 8 hours to 15 minutes. Coordinated all aspects of manufacturing including development of process documentation, plant/workstation layout, cost reductions, resource coordination, worker skills training, time studies, line balancing and quality control. Coordinated the development and implementation of key elements of the quality management system for compliance to ISO9001-2000. Primary contributions made in process control, design control, training and continuous improvement. ISO9001 certification was received on first attempt and 4 months prior to the managements expectation. Created standard work, performed time studies, published required work instructions, trained production staff for all new product launches. Created and managed the maintenance department for all production equipment and tools. Selected preventive maintenance software, recruited/trained technicians, and developed maintenance schedules. 1989 - 1991

Senior Process Engineer, BRK Electronics (First Alert), Aurora Illinois Manufacturer of Residential Smoke Detectors

Performed process analysis and implemented control for the assembly of the First Alert brand smoke detector 10M annual volume. Performed root cause analysis to identify process variations and implemented necessary corrective action to assure process control on all manual and automated operations. Designed and managed the maintenance of a deionized water production process including all prefiltering, regeneration and process chemical mitigation. Increased the capacity of the deionized water system by more than 400% resulting in an annual savings of >$50,000. Created all required process documentation and trained maintenance personnel on proper preventive maintenance.
