Avril Lavigne Career Biography Born in a small town in Ontario in 1985, Avril Lavigne was clearly different from the other children from an early age. She started singing in the church choir and then from there, moved on to country music competitions and finally, she won a competition in a radio contest that allowed her to travel to the city and sing with Country legend Shania Twain! Even though she was already successful at just thirteen years old, Avril continued her school career and at the same time worked hard on her musical talents (especially the guitar). When she was in New York at age 16, an Arista employee who heard her sing was so amazed, he made his manager come and hear Avril sing. Thats when she was signed to Arista records. Avril moved south to New York where she finally began her professional career. She didnt stay long in NY but moved to the West Coast to work with producer Cliff Magness.
