The leader encourages followers to explore new ways of doing things and new opportunities to learn.

Individualized Consideration Transformational leadership also involves offering support and encouragement to individual followers. In order to foster supportive relationships, transformational leaders keep lines of communication open so that followers feel free to share ideas and so that leaders can offer direct recognition of each followers unique contributions.

Inspirational Motivation Transformational leaders have a clear vision that they are able to articulate to followers. These leaders are also able to help followers experience the same passion and motivation to fulfill these goals.

Idealized Influence The transformational leader serves as a role model for followers. Because followers trust and respect the leader, they emulate this individual and internalize his or her ideals.

How I as a Leader Motivate or which motivational theory Ill use: Motivation is the force that drives a person to do something. It includes varying emotions such as: initiative, drive, intensity, persistence, that inhibits, neutralizes, or promotes goal-directed behaviors. It is internal. Employees may choose to learn or escape from learning. If they choose to be active in organization and learn they have a belief in their efficiency to learn and the power of knowing. They are ready to learn. If they have a belief that they are incapable of learning and powerless to change they will choose not to be actively involved or withdraw and their learning and performance is reduced to a lower level. Outstanding Managers motivate their employees to participate with interactions that invite, encourage, and teach supervisors how to set and achieve goals. Employees who acquire positive behaviors transfer and generalize them to new experiences that insure success on tasks in other environments. Why Motivation is necessary? Motivation is the key to success in each and every walk of life. Whether a person is a salesman, a doctor, an engineer or a real estate agent. As a business professional, motivation is the only thing which persuades human beings to explore, work hard and get an expertise in their respective fields and works. All the development in this world carried out by Man and all the inventions so far, are the result of Motivation. Without motivation, it is almost impossible to get the best out of human beings as there is a famous maxim Men are like tea leaves, when put into hard water, they give colors. Its means that we only give best of us when we are motivated enough to do a specific task. Importance of Motivation in Organizations: Motivation is one of the most important factors which play a major role in overall success of an organization. There is one common thing behind all the successful organizations of the world that their employees are highly motivated and organizations intentionally do efforts or make policies to motivate their employees. Several practices are adopted by organizations to motivate their employees such as commissions, incentives, bonuses, pension and other extra-curricular activities at workplace and outdoor activities.

Classification of Motivational Theories: There are three types of motivation theories which are usually used to motivate others in group or organization. These following are the types of motivation theories. Content motivation theories Process motivation theories Reinforcement theories

Expectancy Theory

Effort-performance relationship

Performance-reward relationship

Rewards-personal goals Effort-performance relationship

Individual effort

Individual performance

Organizational rewards

Personal goal

(Source adapted from Robbins, 2001, p171). Reward strategy usually: Combination of policy, process & practices of how people are paid for their performance to motivate them to achieve companys goals. Most important & widely followed reward strategies in practice today are Performance Related Pay Competence Related Pay Skill Based Pay Performance Bonus

Performance related pay Performance pay schemes (Lawler1990,Armstrong1996) cover the various methods of linking pay to a measure of individual, group or organizational performance. They all share the idea that where a worker can vary output according to effort the prospect of increased pay will lead to greater performance. Competence related pay Competencies are the knowledge-skills and the attitude needed by any individual employee to carry out their job effectively. These can be incorporated into a pay system to reward individuals who positively contribute to the overall values and objectives of an organization. This is competency based pay rewarding the way people work, not just recognizing what they can deliver. Skill based pay The payment of additional salary or hourly pay to employees for learning, and being able to perform, additional tasks or skills. It is sometimes expanded to compensate employees for demonstrating relevant competencies. Performance Bonus This type of bonus can be based on individual or group performance. Where it is individual based, the payment would depend on performance ratings. In many countries performance bonuses are commonest for executive staff. It is estimated that in the U.S.A. about 97% of the large and 86% of the medium sized companies pay such bonuses to their executives. In Western Europe the estimate is about 70% and in Asia about 66%. As a percentage of base pay, the figure is highest in the U.S.A., though the variations are also large.

Politics in Pakistan Handicrafts: Employees indulge in politics to win appreciation from the superiors and tarnish the reputation of the fellow workers. Individuals who do not believe in working hard depend on nasty politics at the workplace simply to save their own job. Changing jobs frequently is no solution to politics. One must try to avoid politics for a healthy and positive ambience at the workplace. Following are the ways to reduce politics in Pakistan Handicrafts: Job Satisfaction

Job mismatch leads to politics at the workplace. Responsibilities must be delegated as per the interests, specialization and educational qualification of the employees. Task must not be imposed on anyone. Individuals must enjoy their work for them to stay loyal towards the organization. Employees indulge in politics when they have ample free time and nothing innovative to do. Employees must be clear with their KRAs and duties. They should know what they are supposed to do in the organization.

Transparency

Transparency must be maintained at all levels to reduce politics. Employees must be aware of the goals and objectives of the organization and strive hard to achieve the same. Company policies should be same for everyone.

Team Work

Promote team work at the workplace to strengthen the bond amongst the employees. Individuals should be made to work in teams so that they come closer and develop a liking for each other. Celebrate various festivals at the workplace. Once in a while take your employees out for informal get together and picnics. Such initiatives go a long way in reducing misunderstandings amongst the employees.

Discussions

Issues must be discussed on an open forum and everyone related to the matter must be allowed to participate in the same. Problems arise when matters are discussed in closed cabins and employees do not get a common picture.

Employees should be able to express their views and grievances in front of their superiors. Hierarchies must be well defined to reduce politics. The subordinates must have an easy access to the bosss cabin at the time of queries.

Communication

Effective communication reduces the chances of politics at the workplace. Employees should not play with words and pass on the information in its desired form. Information must not be manipulated at any cost. Individuals should prefer written modes of communication to avoid confusions. Communicate through emails and do keep your boss in the loop. This way the superiors are aware of what is happening around and no employee can cook up stories against anyone.

Maintain the decorum of the workplace

Politics never benefits anyone in the long run. Employees must concentrate on their own work rather than interfering in their colleagues work. Remember your organization pays you for your hard work and not for finding faults in others. Avoid backstabbing or making fun of others. Dont spread unnecessary rumours about anyone at the workplace.

Partiality

The management must not be partial to anyone. Dont blindly support any of the employees. Dont take action against anyone just because one of his team members has said something negative against him. Dont believe anything unless and until there is a proof.

Positive frame of mind

Employees must enter office with calm and a positive frame of mind. Dont think of doing harm to others. Remember bad deeds will fall back on you as well. Dont take things to heart. Avoid overreacting at the workplace. Being overfriendly with everyone also creates problems. Dont let others know all your secrets. An individual should know where to draw the line. Dont take undue favours from anyone at the workplace. Never ever use derogatory words against your boss in front of any of your fellow workers.
