By leveraging its strong network of academicians, intellectuals and industry professionals drawn from across the country, the ALC is envisaged to train the talented educated youth of North East and other parts of the country for imparting them with live skills and also to motivate them to participate in the globalised economy. The Sports Management course Sport today has become a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. The course will focus on providing and equipping the students with detailed information on the areas of sport event management, sports marketing and sponsorship sales. The sports market in India has recently been witness to a slew of sporting events most notably the T20 Indian Premier League. The 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi is expected to further boost the market for sport and sport management professionals in the country. Sport has a global appeal and India does not lag behind with events being organized in golf, tennis, soccer, and others like the Marathon. In Asia Pacific, the sports marketing business ($250 BN globally) touched 15% growth this year and would touch 22% next year. The high visibility and entertainment value of sport provides a plethora of opportunities in the organization and marketing of sport events, sports-related advertising and venue signage, athlete endorsements, facility construction, sporting goods and licensed merchandise, event management and marketing services, sponsorship and ticket sales, media broadcast rights and multimedia. Therefore, the certification from a globally renowned IIM brand provides the ideal launch pad for a career in Sports Management. Benefits of the course The course is designed to equip students with the basic concepts and practices to enable them to gain a foothold in the emerging Indian sports market. The course aims at providing detailed information in the areas of sport event management, sports marketing and sponsorship sales. From a practical standpoint, the students will also be exposed to case studies of celebrity management, sport event organization, and learnings from international sport properties in India. The course will provide employment opportunities in sports organizations like golf management companies, sport marketing companies and sport associations in the country. Qualification Candidates desiring to apply for the 6 month certificate program in Sports Management should be graduates. The course fee is Rs. 10,000/-. The program is non-residential, part time and 3 days in a week from 6 pm to 8 pm at the IIM Shillong campus. The course will commence in end October 2009. The maximum intake for the program is 30 seats.
