In May 2008 the European Commission's Network "Ethnic Minority Businesses" published its final report. Apart from some analytical work on ethnic minority businesses the report puts forward a number of recommendations how ethnic minority and migrant businesses could be aided by national governments and support organisations to realise their full potential. The network was established following the 2003 conference by the European commission and Member States. It consists of national administrators, researchers and representatives from business organisation. Its purpose is the exchange of information and good practices in the field of migrant entrepreneurship/ethnic minority entrepreneurship.

Diaspora Social Entrepreneurship Network for Development


There is growing interest on what migrant can do to promote cross-board entrepreneurship partnership for mutually sustainable economic development. Institutional actors; government and non-government sectors are leading this notion by initiating changes in policy support to strengthen development portfolio of migration and development. The Dutch ministries of development cooperation and foreign Affairs have shown interest by recognizing the valuable contribution that migrant entrepreneurs can make on reducing poverty in their respective aid receiving developing countries of origin. Diaspora Social Entrepreneurship Network (DSEND) is a network of active African migrant organizations in the Netherlands that aspires to promote social entrepreneurship in development cooperation. The organisation is established to promote the interest of distinguished migrants organisations in the Netherlands with experience in implementation of donor funded projects in Africa and the Netherlands. DSEND is a networking organisation that aims to promote positive image, special attributes and passion of migrants on application of programmes of social entrepreneurship for development cooperation. Among the noteworthy entrepreneurial values of DSEND, it strives to build bridge for transverse of exiting economic needs in both the developed and developing countries. DSEND uniquely presents enabling environment to mobilized aid spending towards creation and expansion of opportunities for income generating activities in aid receiving countries; for promotion of partnership between donor agencies and pro-poor private enterprises in both donor and receiving countries and vitally, on reducing poverty inspired migration and social consequences of global economic injustice.

DSEND was initiated after sections of trainings, coaching programmes and dialoguing opportunities that the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affair offered to inspiring migrant organisations. These interactive sections aim to directly communicate the position of the Dutch government on the popular call for increase investment in poorer countries.
