Figure 1-1 Architecture of iManager N2000 DMS The iManager N2000 DMS can help you implement the following goals:
l l
Improving abilities and saving cost of operation and maintenance on IP network. Viewing running status of network and device in real time, improving the network reliability. Planning and allocating network resources reasonably. Locating network fault rapidly, shortening the response time.

Real-time alarm with visual and audible prompt Supporting re-definition for alarm levels, that is, you can define alarm levels as required Supporting shielding repeated alarms and intermittent alarms so as to reduce alarms report by mistake Supporting sending alarms through E-mail Supporting saving the processing experience for maintenance reference in the future Supporting establishing an Alarm Query Template as required, in this way you can set required conditions to browse concerned alarms and save the result as a report
l l
Supporting dumping history alarms to save the space and ensuring high efficiency and stability of the system. Supporting alarm topology locating so as to get the location of the NE with the alarm generation. Providing daily, weekly and monthly link utilization reports.

CPU load, memory usage, system temperature and fan status. Monitoring threshold setting function and notifying the administrator if the threshold is exceeded. Monitoring the network performance indexes (such as drop packet number, received packet number, number of packet with more than 64 bytes, and number of packet with more than 1518 bytes) through RMON (RFC1757 RMON-MIB and Huawei-defined alarm extended MIB) and support user-defined performance monitor indexes.
Discovering HGMP topology automatically and supporting dynamic refreshment Implementing unified, centralized and batched configuration management for one group of devices Centralized maintenance management for devices in the HGMP Implementing convenient configuration data backup and recovery

Perform topology auto-discovery and refresh the topology dynamically. Detect the change of network device status (for example, the port status is changed or the communication with the NMS is broken) to change the color of topology node.
Enable you to create a topology view (physical view) composed by your concerned devices. Provide aerial view to display and locate the required topology in a large scale network. Search for a node in the topology and locate a network device in the explorer and topology view as fast as possible. Drag, zoom in, zoom out and select several nodes on the topology.
Providing flexible policies to allocate rights for users (authenticate users according to object + operation), which is convenient for operator to allocate user right based on the actual management responsibility.
Providing simple and convenient tools for database backup which simplify the administrators task. Providing Watchman components which ensure high-availability of the system. Providing detailed user and task operation logs.
l l
Graphical customization and installation: Provides a graphical, wizard interface for NMS installation and upgrade, and supports combined custom installation of NMS functional components.
Flexible help system: Provides the uniform entry menu to prompt you for help information learning and lookup. When operating iManager N2000 DMS, you can obtain the relevant help information through the button or hot keys.
l l
Supporting several platforms and several languages (English and Chinese). Integration with the mainstream NMS.

Figure 3-1 Inband networking Networking description: Because the managed devices of iManager N2000 DMS are connected to the IP core network, the NMS center only needs to connect with the nearest IP device on the IP core network. You can manage each device in the network by configuring the relevant routes. How the NMS center is connected with the IP core relies on the location of the center with the nearest IP device. If they are in the same room, the LAN can be adopted; otherwise, the DDN or E1 can be adopted which is similar to those in outband networking.
Figure 3-2 Outband networking Networking description: The NMS connects with each managed device through other device.
Figure 3-3 Watchman networking Generally, the application service is running on Site A (main node). Data replication software copies the updated data on Site A to Site B (standby node). When Site A fails,
3-2
Watchman will restart the application service running on it from Site B (Site B turns into main node) to achieve automatically backup from remote. Main node: Refers to the node where the source of data to be copied is located. The application process such as NMS can be started on it. In Figure 3-3, Site A is the main node. Standby node: Refers to the node where the sink of data to be copied is located. The application process such as NMS cannot be started on it. In Figure 3-3, Site B is the standby node.
