NTERIM TRANSCRIPT Semester 1, Academic Year 2011/12 Important Notes These notes are for guidance only.

. You should always refer to the University General Academic Regulations (GAR), the Examination and Assessment Regulations (EAR), the Student Leaflet and the Student Handbook, all of which can be accessed on-line from the Universitys home webpage. Check the BUE website and your BUE email regularly for important notices and updates. The Semester 1 marks on this transcript for the current academic year are interimonly at this stage. The Semester 1 provisional results will be reviewed by Subject Advisors and External Examiners, and may be amended. Your interim marks could be raised or they could be reduced. Final approval will take place at the Programme Examination Board in June.

Check your transcript carefully Your interim transcript shows all the modules you have studied at the BUE, the marks you achieved and the credits awarded for each module, and the average mark and total credits awarded for each year of the programme you have completed. Make sure your transcript shows 120 credits per academic year of the programme (60 credits per semester). If it includes modules that you did not take, or modules that you did take are missing, or you have any other query about the details shown on your transcript, you must contact the Quality & Validation Office (Q&V) for advice (email: Q&VStaff@bue.edu.eg ). Registration incomplete: you must complete your on-line module registrations before you can see your transcript. In addition, if you do not complete your on-line module registrations you will not have access to your Semester 2 exam timetable and you risk missing one of your limited numberof attempts. If there are no marks on your transcript Check the withheld reason at the top of your transcript and take urgent action: fees not paid: pay your fees/any other payments at the Finance Office. The Finance Office will inform the Quality & Validation Office (Q&V) by email to update your record. Then you will be able to access your transcript on-line after 2 working days. missing documents: Take the missing documents to Student Affairs. Student Affairs will inform Q&V by email to update your record. Then you will be able to access your transcript on-line after 2 working days. You must submit all documents required by the Egyptian Ministry for admission or military service to ensure you will graduate on time. unreturned library books: return your library books/pay your library fines at the Library. The Library will inform Q&V by email to update your record. Then you will be able to access your transcript on-line after 2 working days. other: contact the Quality & Validation Office (email: Q&VStaff@bue.edu.eg ) for advice.

Failed modules If you have failed a module(s) in Semester One then the Programme Examination Board in June may allow you the opportunity to be reassessed in the Summer Assessment Period (i.e. Re-sits). Your eligibility for the Re-sits depends on the total number of credits you have failed/not completed at the end of the academic year and the number of attempts you have available. Read the General Academic Regulations, Section 13, for full details. The re-sit unseen written examination period is from 19 July until 8 August 2012.

If you have failed a module(s) in Semester One and used all your permitted number of attempts then you may not be eligible to continue your studies on the UK validated degree (UK) and the Programme Examination Board in June may dismiss you from the UK degree. In such cases, and if you are eligible, you may have the option of transferring to the BUE Egyptian (EG) only degree. You should contact the Head of Q&V as soon as possible for further advice. English Modules If you passed an English Level module in Semester One then you register on the next English Level module in Semester Two. If you failed your English module in SemesterOne then you register on the same module in Semester 2, provided you have not used all your available attempts. Read the guidance on English progression and graduation requirements in the Student Handbook and the General Academic Regulations, Section 3 and the relevant Annex 2 or 3. Absence If you expect to be absent for a limited period during Semester Two you must follow the Guidelines on Student Absence in the Student Handbook. Impaired Performance (IP) If you have an accepted IP in Semester One your transcript will include one of two flags: I iswhere your IP has been accepted, an assessment has been discounted and your total assessment for the module is "Incomplete": you will be permitted to take the "discounted" assessment in the Summer Assessment Period to complete your attempt on the module(s) concerned; IP is for an accepted IP where your impairment has been taken into account by the Examination Board in determining the marks shown on your transcript. If you think your performance in Semester 2 has been adversely affected by serious or acute problems or events beyond your control, use the IP Procedure: complete the IP Form, sign it, obtain and attach appropriate documentary evidence and ask your Module Leaders to complete and sign the form. Make sure you allow enough time to complete your claim. The deadlines for making an IP claim in Semester Two are shown below. Do not wait until you know your Semester Two results. IP claims submitted after the deadlines will be rejected. The deadline for IP claims in English modules is Monday 30 April 2012. The deadline for IP claims in all other modules is Monday 14 May 2012. Academic Misconduct If you have an upheld case of academic misconduct in Semester 1 your transcript will include a flag (MC misconduct in exam, or CHcheating, or PL plagiarism) to show that a penalty has been applied. Details will be emailed to you by the Faculty Office via your BUE email. Appeals Read the guidance notes in your Student Handbook. There are very limited and specific grounds on which you can make an appeal against your mark. Appeals against the academic judgement of the examiners are not permitted. You must show either: that the University has done something wrong or behaved incorrectly, for example, that there was a page missing from your exam paper and so you couldnt answer all the questions, or that you were given misleading or incorrect information,or that the examiner treated you unfairly and differently to the other students; or that you were sick, or something else happened to you that meant that you couldnt perform as well as you should have, and you had a very good reason for not using the Impaired Performance Procedure to inform the University.

The on-line Appeal Form should be completed and submitted, with supporting evidence attached, to the Quality &Validation Office. The deadline for submitting an appeal against your results in Semester 1 or Semester 2 is Wednesday 4 July 2012.
