At the June 18th 2012 stated communication of Baron Steuben lodge, the 160th installation of lodge officers occurred. Bro. Steven Armstrong, having been duly elected at the May 21st, 2012 summoned communication, was installed as Worshipful Master for 2012-2013. Baron Steuben Summer Picnic


Where: Baron Steuben Lodge When: Saturday, July 7th 4-6 PM

Bring the whole family and enjoy food, fun, and fellowship at our annual summer picnic. Following the picnic, Baron Steuben Masons will march in the 82nd annual Lee Center Firemans Parade. The parade kickoff is 7PM. Please bring a dish to pass and table service. The lodge will supply the burgers, dogs, sausage, rolls and beverages. Guests are welcome.

Answer to Trivia Question - The Bible belonged (and still belongs) to St. John's Lodge No. 1 located in New York City. The Oath of Office was administered by Robert R. Livingston, Chancellor of the State of New York and also Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New York. Although not part of the text of the Oath as written in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution, Washington added the words, "so help me God" and kissed the Bible, establishing a precedent that every President has followed to the present day. Brothers, a reminder: Pursuant to our recent by-laws changes, the meeting dates of Baron Steuben lodge have changed. We no longer meet during the month of July. Also, on certain holidays, including Labor Day (3 September), the lodge is closed. Lastly, by order of the Worshipful Master, dress for meetings held during the month of August will be business casual attire. It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. M e m o r i a l D ay - R e m e m b e r T h e i r S a c r i f i c e
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in the service of the United States. It was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, and was first observed on 30 May 1868. The first state to recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. It is now celebrated annually on the last Monday in May (passed by Congress with the National Holiday Act of 1971). Waterloo NY was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966. On Memorial Day 2012, brothers from Baron Steuben, led by the Worshipful Master, honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the United States. In addition, the lodge was presented with a new American flag by members of the American Legion (Lee Legion) post 1794.

Briefly Noted
Correction - In the May 2012 edition of the Limburger Letter, it was incorrectly reported that Baron Steuben #264 had been chartered for 150 years. In reality, as of June 18, 2012, Baron Steuben Lodge has been charted for 160 years, meeting continuously since 1852. 95 - On July 17, 2012, Brother Hubert Lampman Jones will celebrate his 95th birthday. Brother Jones was raised a Master Mason on April 25th, 1951 at Baron Steuben lodge. Happy Birthday! Building Fund - The Worshipful Master has made increasing the building fund a priority initiative for his administration. In 2019, our lodge building will be 200 years old. The building fund was established to facilitate the repair and upgrade of our building as necessary. Make your donations to the lodge secretary. No amount is too small. On June 4th 2012, Baron Steuben hosted a traditional Table Lodge. The lodge was opened on the 1st degree and included refreshments and the 7 traditional toasts. Also, it allowed the Worshipful Master to provide a summary of his year and to conclude his administration with a bang. In addition, he presented Master Mason certificates to our new members who were in attendance. Brothers receiving certificates were Drew Albaugh, Steven Mack, Wayne Towne III, John Smith, and Dan Helmer. Approximately 40 Masons attended and included Timothy Harwood DDGM 2nd Oneida, and Mike Dunn Grand High Priest RAM. Refreshments were provided by members of Lake Delta Chapter/Mappa Salma Chapter OES. Thank you Wayne for a great year!

On June 24th 2012, the Lee Center Masonic Temple was dedicated as a Royal Arch Tabernacle allowing it to be used to confer Royal Arch degrees. Presiding over the dedication ceremony was Most Excellent Michael T. Dunn, Grand High Priest of Royal Arch Masons in the State of New York.

Worshipful Master Steven W. Armstrong was born July 24th 1966, at Wurtsmiths AFB, Oscota Michigan the second son, and the seventh of eight children to John and Sheila Armstrong. He traveled with his family around the country until 1971 when his father retired from the Air Force at Griffiss AFB in Rome, New York. He was educated in Rome City Schools, graduating from Rome Free Academy in 1984. In 1986, he graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College with an degree in Human Services. He worked as a restaurant manager with Carrol's Corp (Burger King) where he hired a beautiful young lady who would later become his wife. On June 3rd 1989, he married the Former Mary Jo A. Sweeney in her home town of Massena NY. She later blessed him with two amazing children, Ashley Ann Armstrong and Luke Donald Vincent Armstrong. In September of 1992 he joined the New York State Dept. of Correctional Services. After two promotions he is currently a Lieutenant at Midstate Correctional facility located in Marcy, New York. In April, 2007, he was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason at Baron Steuben Lodge #264 Lee Center. He is currently a member of Darius Chapter #144 Royal Arch Masons. Steven was created a Noble of Ziyara Shrine in 2009. Steve enjoys camping, hiking, and kayaking with his family and friends whenever possible.

BrothersI hate to be the heavy, but I must remind you that the new procedures regarding delinquent members are now in effect. Final dues notices will be sent next week. Those not responding, in the allotted timeframe, will be summoned to appear before the lodge to provide justification for the delinquency or face expulsion. scheduled for August 6th.
