In 1968, the school became an independent senior college in the City University of New York (CUNY) system. About Bernard M. Baruch Bernard Baruch graduated from the City College of New York and worked as a broker before becoming a partner at A. Housman and Company. With his earnings and commissions, he bought a seat on the New York Stock Exchange for $18,000. There he amassed a fortune before the age of thirty via speculation in the sugar market. In 1903 he had his own brokerage firm and had gained the reputation of The Lone Wolf on Wall Street because of his refusal to join any other financial house. By 1910, he had become one of Wall Streets financial leaders. After his success in business, he devoted his time toward advising Democratic presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt on economic matters. In 1946 he was appointed the United States representative to the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission (UNAEC) by President Harry S. Truman. Bernard Baruch was the first to coin the term Cold War in reference to the conflict between United States and the Soviet Union while giving a speech on April 16, 1947. As a renowned financier, shrewd investor, statesman, and presidential adviser, he was on the cover of TIME magazine a total of three times in his life.

Baruch College is part of a tradition that dates 160 years to the founding, in 1847, of the Free Academy, the very first free public institution of higher education in the nation. (Baruchs landmark building at 23rd Street and Lexington Avenue occupies the site of the Free Academy). Established in 1919 as City Colleges School of Business and Civic Administration, it was renamed in 1953 in honor of Bernard M. Baruch statesman, financier, and devoted alumnus. Baruch College is today, one of the top senior colleges in the City University of New York.

Learning needs Each subject is context-oriented: students constantly use their class experience to improve their decision-making skills in their work environment and in evaluating their career objectives. Diversity Admission is highly exclusive, while each cohort (class) enrolls no more than 50 students, the variety of educational, business, professionals, and international backgrounds leads to lively discussions with the widest range of viewpoints and expertise. Cohort Design Incoming classes are titled cohorts; all members of the cohort remain together throughout the 18-month program. It is a lockstep curriculum with electives decided by the university. Program Structure & Delivery


Program Delivery
For many students, Orientation is the first step into actual classes. Orientation is planned on one of the week days evening and takes place at Baruch College, Singapore - ASEAN REP Office. Attendance is mandatory, and only students, faculty, and selected guests are invited. The atmosphere is relaxed and gives students the chance to interact with faculty and fellow students. Costs are included in tuition.

Delivery Method
The classes are delivered via face-to-face lectures with professors from the United States. The professors will be stationed in Singapore for 2 weekends and are available for additional academic consultation with students outside classroom hours by appointment. Singapore-based students will also enjoy online access to the award-winning William and Anita Newman Library in New York. The library which was awarded the Best College Library in America 2003 by ACRL, offers access to numerous academic journal database.

Method of Assessment
Students will be assessed using a combination of examinations and assignments. The course professor will inform the students at the commencement of the class on the actual assessment method that would be used for that specific course. Different professors have different teaching styles and different assessment preferences. However, students should expect the assessments to be rigorous and challenging, in keeping with the demands of an advanced degree program from a leading American university. Grades awarded by the professor will be final and will be part of the official student record lodged at Baruch College, City University of New York. Students should treat their course assessments seriously and put in the requisite time and efforts to secure a good grading in order to graduate.

Internationally Respected Awards


Upon successful completion of the Baruch EMBA program, you will receive a EMBA degree from the City University of New York. The degree is exact same as the ones awarded on campus in New York.

Admission and Application


Admission Requirements
1. A recognized Bachelors degree or equivalent from an accredited University or recognised institution 2. Five to ten years of work experience 3. Three years of management experience 4. Successful Initial Online Application The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is not required for admission, however it is highly recommended for those candidates whose prior academic work does not show distinction or clear evidence of strong quantitative and logical reasoning skills. Corporate sponsorship is encouraged. Mature candidates who have demonstrated exceptional professional or business achievements but who do not meet the above requirements may be consideredon a case-by-case basis. Please contact our Program Director in Singapore for an assessment.

Program Fees
The tuition fee is US$50,000 The fee includes the cost of recommended text books and readings as well as most meals for the residential in New York. The cost of travel, accommodation and miscellaneous expenses are not included. We strongly recommend that you start the process as early as possible as we required certified copies of documents, i.e. official university transcripts, reference letter and test reports (where applicable). Withdrawal and Deferment


All notice of withdrawal must be in writing. Refund amount depends on time of notification prior to course. 100% refund of tuition fees if the applicants written notice of withdrawal is received more than sixty [60] to thirty [30] days before the commencement date. 75% refund of tuition fees if the applicant written notice of withdrawal is received between sixty [60] to thirty [30] days before the commencement date. 15% refund of tuition fees if the applicants written notice of withdrawal is received after thirty [30] days before the commencement date but not more than seven [7] days after the commencement date. 0% refund of tuition fees if the applicants written notice of withdrawal is received more than fourteen [14] days after the commencement date. Course fees paid will not be refunded in the event of deferment regardless if whether the request made prior to commencement or after the commencement of the course.

You will spend much less time away from work than you would in most other Masters programs because of the intensive course structure. Most of the tuition fee is tax deductible for your employer, so the real cost is much less than it first appears. In short, the long term benefits in leadership and management capabilities will far outweigh the investment made.

Applied Learning - The Management Approach


The program is 100% taught in face-in-face lecture by worldclass professors from New Yorks Zicklin School of Business (the largest business school in U.S.) from Baruch College, The City University of New York. There will be an mandatory 2 week immersion program to New York at the end of the program
MGT 9700 Introduction to Operations Management Providing all MBA students with a broad overview, understanding, and managerial perspective of the issues and problems involved in managing the operations function in service and manufacturing firms as well as governmental organizations. Important topics to be examined include corporate strategy, interaction of the operations function with other areas of the firm, alternative operating structures, operations planning and design, materials management, scheduling of resources, quality management, and Just-InTime philosophy and principles. Discussions of various topics will include national and global organizations and will feature current topics and practices generally associated with world-class competitors. It includes an analysis of fixed and variable costs, product costs, relevant costs, investment decisions, and budgetary planning. FIN 9770 Financial Decision Making Survey and analysis of problems facing the financial manager. Topics include basic risk and return concepts, security pricing and analysis, capital budgeting, the cost of capital, and the financing decisions of corporations. The course will introduce the student to the theory of financial decision making with emphasis on application to practical decision problems. IBS 9760 International Business Analysis This module analyzes the major characteristics of international business: its economic, political, social and cultural environments; key international institutions; and the problems, policies, and practices in this area. BUS 9100 The Societal and Governmental Environment of Business Intended to explain the environment of business decision making. The emphasis is on government regulation as a growing dimension of the environment of business decision making. In addition to dealing with such new governmental programs as those in environmental protection, occupational health and safety, and consumer regulation, the course will deal with such traditional topics as anti-trust regulations. The impact of social problems will be considered, as will be the ethical dilemmas of today's business manager. CIS 9000 Information Systems for Managers Students will survey and analyze information systems and their role in business strategy. The course surveys the various genres of business information systems, including transactions processing systems, management information systems (MIS), decision support systems (DSS) and executive support systems (ESS), and expert systems. The course surveys information technologies such as hardware, software, data storage, and telecommunication and provides an analytical basis for the selection of appropriate business strategies in these areas. The course also considers timely

issues of emerging technologies, social and ethical concerns, and security and control issues. The course assumes facility with spreadsheet and operating systems software prior to entry. IBS 9769 International Business Strategy Analysis of strategy in international business in terms of resources to be transmitted abroad, adaptation to foreign cultures, acquisition of legitimacy in host countries, and the integration of the international firm's various parts. MGT9330 Leadership and Managerial Effectiveness Analysis of the determinants of managerial effectiveness, with emphasis on managerial behavior and the interpersonal environment, using concepts and research results from the social sciences. Topics include leadership, communication, reward systems, performance evaluation, and their relation to job satisfaction and organizational effectiveness. MGT 9660 Negotiation Negotiation is the art and science of securing agreements between two or more interdependent parties. It is a craft that must hold cooperation and competition in creative tension. Therefore, the purpose of this course is to understand the theory and processes of negotiation as it is practiced in a variety of settings. The course will train students to use a principled model of negotiation and to better predict and assess the behavior of individuals, groups, and organizations in competitive situations. Students will gain a broad intellectual understanding of the central concepts in negotiation, bargaining, and mediation. They will develop confidence in the negotiation process as an effective means for resolving conflict in organizations.

FIN 9759 Mergers and Acquisitions This module is specifically designed for business leaders, key decision makers and financial professionals to update their knowledge when dealing with and planning for M&A. Key issues such as why and how firms merge and restructure and the effects on stock prices, capital structure (debt versus equity), company valuation and market power. The legal, ethical, and regulatory aspects of mergers will also be considered to provide a holistic view of the entire mergers and acquisitions process. CIS 9230 Globalization and Technology This course is relevant to managers in all disciplines who will face technological decisions in a global business environment. This course will focus on information and communication technology (ICT) environments around the world, national infrastructures and regulatory regimes, global IT applications, global IS developmental strategies, global supply chains, offshore outsourcing, global management support systems, and global IS/IT strategies. The course will provide an in-depth understanding of managing information resources across national borders, time zones, cultures, political philosophies, regulatory regimes, and economic infrastructures. This is an interdisciplinary course covering multiple perspectives addressing technical, socioeconomic, socio cultural, policy, regulatory, legal, and ethical issues. BUS 9200 Business Policy (CAPSTONE) Deals with the process of business policy formulation and implementation. The purpose is to integrate concepts from functional courses to provide students with a general management orientation. The course deals with broadly based business problems via use of integrative case studies and a special project. The course is conceptual rather than technical in character.
