First Aid is care given to an injured person to stabilize and keep him / her safe until he / she can receive professional medical attention.

Preserve Life Prevent worsening Promote recovery

To assess the situation

Identify the disease or condition from which casualty

is suffering

Give immediate, adequate treatment bearing in mind

that a casualty may have more than one injury and that some casualties will require more urgent attention than others

Arrange, without delay for disposal of a casualty to a

doctor, hospital or home according to the seriousness of the condition

Prevention

preventing an injury or illness is always better than needing to treat the victims.

Provider should not place themselves in jeopardy, thus potentially creating two victims.
-

Enter areas thought to be unsafe (such as those affected by water, fire, etc.) only if specially trained to conduct rescues in these environments.

Prevention of disease transmission through universal precautions - The single most important aspect of infection control is good hand hygiene
-

first aid is only one part of a continuum of care.
