What is a family?
Naturally each of us is very "familiar" with our own surroundings and social mores and culture. But it is a very diverse world in which we live. Just because Dad (or Mom) cracks the whip a certain way in the US-doesn't mean it works that way in India, Peru or Sweden. Yes, we can even have family defined as "any of our immediate social groups within which we feel a strong sense of friendship, bonding or belonging. Without this social mechanism we would not be here.
Filipino parents believe in their traditional values and beliefs. As in every family, there are different types of fathers and mothers. The father is usually the hard-working, stern type and the mother is the more passive and the understandable one. A Filipino father believes in hard work and working with his hands. A Filipino mother will usually cook and be the most religious one in the family. A Filipino family enjoys cooking and eating a lot, especially Filipino food. If you go to a Filipino household, the people will almost more than likely-offer you a bite to eat. Filipino's have a close-knit bond with their uncles, aunts and cousins-you can usually find them at a Filipino family party on Saturday's and Sunday's. And since most Filipino's are Catholic, they attend mass at a Catholic church every Sunday.
As Health advocates in the society, we are obliged to maintain or restore the optimum health of the people within the community and that aim we have as actively participating student nurses of this generation, we adhere to the problems of our family, which is the basic unit of the society and the most important component of our country.
We met the family for the first time last July 06, 2012 at Buclad, Asuncion. Their geographical location is accessible because theres already road in order for you to locate the place; we took a ride in order for us to reach the place. The head of the family is Mr. Leonardo Sepneo, a 41 year old original resident of Barangay Buclad. He is living together with his wife, Mrs.Arelyn Sepneo, 40 year old and with his son and daughter. The head of the family is a farmer and single motor driver, and earns at approximately Php 200 per month. The husband seldom drinks, while Arelyn is a plain housewife whose focus is to take care of the children especially their daughter who often acquires such illnesses.
As the real aim of the Nursing Profession which is to give care to the people, we took it as a stepping stone in helping the family in making them realize the essence of a simple yet healthy life through many ways of living. We are also responsible for giving our family the importance of prioritizing such health problems whether a health deficit or threat in order to give specific actions for us, together with the cooperation of the family, to achieve, solve, reduce and/or completely eliminate the different kinds of problems through establishing a good foundation of prioritizing actions and care to promote, prevent or keep the family away from the occurrences of various diseases.
