The greatest

glory of being a teacher is not just simply to be recognized but rather the appreciation of the heroic acts he has

Good teaching is the basic consideration

of effective learning. Knowledge of nursing alone and the skill of teaching will not necessarily help the nurse become a good teacher if she is ignorant of the principles & the process of nursing education.

1. Personal qualities

Innate qualities that the teacher must possess. 2. Professional qualities Character traits by the teachers are enhanced and strenghtened by their eclectic knowledge, skills and values derived from years of professional training and experiences in various situations.

The nurse educator must posses the qualities and characteristics of an effective teacher and possess the teaching skills necessary to efficiently and effectively transfer knowledge and skills to her learners.

-provides with all the necessary instructional materials - includes the use of laboratory - syllabus is developed with clear instructions - reading materials are identified & available - hardware and software are prepared for use - supplies must be available beforehand

- makes a direct display of the skills to be taught - shows the student what, why how to do certain procedures or skills.

- it is meant to duplicate the real situation that requires the use of skills laboratory - can practice skills using equipment in a virtual laboratory - get a feel of how to use equiptment in a real situation involving the needed skill

1. Assemble all equipment ahead of time 2. Make sure all equipment are in working order. 3. Do a dry run of the procedure and time of demonstration. 4. Arrange the environment to as realistic as

possible. 5. Perform the procedure in an orderly sequence

6. When appropriate give rationale for your actions. 7. Refer to the handouts or textbooks to show fine points that may not be visible for the

audience. 8. Be sure to adhere to all relevant principles of good nursing care. 9. Consider performing the skill a second time or having the learner perform a demonstration without any explanation, to show the flow of the skill.
