CLADDING
Cladding is the application of one material over another to provide a skin or layer intended to control the infiltration of weather elements, or for aesthetic purposes.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION & MATERIAL

BENEFITS OF CLADDING
situations, where a buildings external envelope does not need to be fully sealed (train stations, bus stations, car parks and other similar structures) perforated metal cladding can be an ideal solution .
In

The benefits of perforated metal cladding are light weight, durability and easy installation.

WHY IT IS USED ?

The main aim of cladding is not only for the aesthetic purpose, but it is also used to protect the building structures from the environmental factors.
This control element may only serve to safely direct water or wind in order to control run-off and prevent infiltration into the building structure.

WEATHER BOARD CLADDING

Weatherboards are a type of cladding that is commonly used to cover the outside of a building so that it looks attractive and also protects the building.
Weatherboards are made from timber or reconstituted hardwood that can be painted or stained to choice, or they can be made from vinyl. Vinyl weatherboards are available in a huge range of colours, and are commonly formed to look like timber, without the associated maintenance.

ADVANTAGES OF WEATHER BOARD CLADDING

Weatherboards are ideal for cladding the outside of the home and they can be fixed to all kinds of substrates including fibre cement, brick, and so on.

Weatherboards are quick and easy to install on any home and they are lightweight yet strong.

They have very long life, if they are installed and maintained correctly.

WOOD CLADDING

Wood cladding is an exterior finish for a structure which is made from wood. There are a number of different types of wood cladding available, from engineered wood panels to traditional clapboard siding. There are a number of species of wood that are commonly used for cladding, such as Scots pine, spruce and red cedar. As well as providing an attractive natural finish, timber cladding is environmentally friendly and naturally resistant to wind and moisture.

ADVANTAGES OF TIMBER CLADDING

Timber cladding can also be recycled . Timber is also a great natural insulation material and using timber cladding can reduce the need to use bulky masonry foundation walls. Timber cladding also has good sound absorption qualities so exterior noises will be fainter inside the home. Timber cladding is relatively lightweight so it is quick to install and easy to work with. It is also a relatively strong material. The timber is generally treated before installation or a naturally resistant species of timber is used.

VINYL CLADDING

Vinyl siding is made from rows of PVC panels, and is very popular in North America due to its wide range of colors and high levels of durability. It is also easy to maintain, only needing to be washed when required. However, the process used to manufacture vinyl siding requires a lot of energy, and as a result this form of cladding is not deemed to be environmentally friendly.

STONE CLADDING

stone cladding brings a feel of natural style and elegance to your home and the look is unmatched by any other type of cladding.
It uses thin layers of natural or simulated stone. Stone cladding complements any surrounding. However, stone can be expensive and more labour intensive than other types of cladding.

ADVANTAGES OF STONE CLADDING

Stone

cladding is available in a number of forms, such as granite, marble and limestone, and forms a cavity between the structure and the cladding when installed.

This allows rainwater to drain away from the building, avoiding moisture absorption by the building itself, which could lead to rot.

FIBER CEMENTED CLADDING

Fiber cement siding (or "fibre cement cladding" in the UK and Australasia) is a building material used to cover the exterior of a building in both commercial and domestic applications.
5th SEMESTER

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION & MATERIAL

ADVANTAGES OF FIBER CEMENTED CLADDING

This type of cladding is made by compressing sand, cement, and cellular fibre into sheets.
Fibre cement cladding gives the appearance of wood but it is lighter, easier to install, and requires less maintenance.

METAL CLADDING

Metal cladding is either steel or aluminium cladding.

The metal is protected through anodising, galvanising or powder coating and a range of different colours are available to suit any colour scheme. A range of looks can be created using metal cladding such as sleek flat panels or corrugated looks. Metal cladding is also very low maintenance.

ADVANTAGES OF METAL CLADDING

It is durable and highly resistant to weather, fire and changes in temperature.

It is available in a number of forms, such as corrugated or smooth, and does not require regular maintenance. It is, however, an unattractive finish, which is why it is commonly used on industrial buildings.

It is also expensive to install; however, it will last for years if well looked-after.

EXTERNAL FOAM CLADDING

External foam cladding is cladding that is made from a type of foam, such as expanded polystyrene. External foam cladding can also be known as an External Insulated Finish System (EIFS). The polystyrene has a reinforced core and it has a special coating on it (fibreglass mesh) to ensure that the cladding panels are strong and resistant to impacts.

ADVANTAGES OF EXTERNAL FOAM CLADDING

It is very easy to install and thus also very fast to install and this can save you money on the cost of installation. If you are confident in your own abilities, you may even be able to install it yourself.

The foam cladding can stand up to the weather very well and there is little risk of cracking and so forth. It is also non toxic and very resistant to termites.

CONCRETE CLADDING

Concrete cladding is cladding that can be fixed to the interior or exterior of a building. It is made from concrete that is pre-formed (using moulds) into the desired panel shapes or into tiles. If no colouring agents are added, the concrete is a grey colour, but with the addition of colorants many different colours can be achieved. You can also paint the concrete if desired.

ADVANTAGES OF CONCRETE CLADDING

Concrete cladding is an extremely strong form of cladding and very durable. It is low maintenance . Concrete cladding stands up to the weather well. Concrete itself is an environmentally friendly material and it is recyclable should you choose to remove the cladding from your building for any reason. It is quick to install and is great for insulating as concrete has a high thermal mass. it is impervious to termites and other insects, will not rust, crack or warp, and it stands up well in the event of a fire.
