Scheduled Banks in India constitute those banks which have been


included in the Second Schedule of Reserve Bank of India(RBI) Act, 1934. CRITERIA TO BE A SCHEDULED BANK IN INDIA CARRYING ON THE BUSSINESS OF BANKING IN INDIA MUST HAVE A RESERVE CAPITAL OF 5,00,000 WITH RBI They can be further divided into 2 sub division a) cooperative banks b) Commercial banks

Banks with reserve capital of less than 5 lakh rupees qualify as non-scheduled banks, though 5 lakh rupees constitutes such a small sum of money that hardly any banks fall into this designation. As of 2011 only four such banks exist.

An institution which accepts deposits, makes business loans, and offers related services. Commercial banks also allow for a variety of deposit accounts, such as savings and time deposit. These institutions are run to make a profit and owned by a group of individuals. Commercial banks offer services to individuals, they are primarily concerned with receiving deposits and lending to businesses.
