Research Aims

The aim of the research is to study the current status of Knowledge management system if at all exists in the B-schools and to identify the Knowledge Management components

Introduction
The governments aspirations for making India a leading international education centre in Asia has put a strong pressure on local universities to improve the quality of education they offer. This can be achieved by enhancing the performance of Indian universities through the application and implementation of an excellent Knowledge Management System. An effective Knowledge Management system requires each academician to practice appropriate management of knowledge in his or her teaching and learning process. This includes generating, acquiring, storing, and disseminating knowledge to the users of knowledge especially the students.

The Emerging need for applying Knowledge Management

Lack of research Lack of top management institutional support Lack of Research culture Lack of Credibility and quality in research Lack of industrial support Lack of resources (Faculty/Research Staff) Lack of Globalization in research endeavour Lack of research on Management Courses curriculum

Approaches of Knowledge Management

Knowledge Generation Knowledge Storing & Processing Knowledge Sharing Marketing of Knowledge

Knowledge Generation

Knowledge Storing & Processing

Education Collaboration system
Primary system to develop a community of collaborative knowledge workers. Requires IT infrastructure and responsive communication system. Primary purpose is to connect enterprise knowledge workers to promote an environment of innovation and continuous improvement.

Knowledge Storing & Processing

Knowledge Database
Internal System: (Intranet, group decision support system) Designed to provide easily accessible data and knowledge to the knowledge workers. External System: (Internet, Conferences, Workshops) to access knowledge workers to data and knowledge external to the enterprise

Knowledge Sharing
I would like to think that our faculty, especially in the top B-schools, are reasonably capable people. Many of them are well-read and the increasingly demanding students are maintaining the pressure on them to upgrade their knowledge. So, more than knowledge development, it is knowledge sharing which is the key issue. In general, we Indians are reluctant to share what we know with others. We feel worried, that all the hard work put in by us will be meaningless if some one has easy access to our knowledge. This is a wrong mindset. People will invariably learn what we know as no secret is permanent.

Marketing of Knowledge
There is an increased demand for new strategies that help management institutions meet external and internal demands. For developing strategic internal alliances the business schools have to more effectively use their resources and infrastructure to reap more benefit from their investments in both people and technology. This KM approach will enable business schools to quickly respond to its goals and objectives and in some cases preempt staff and faculty demands and needs. To build and develop a robust and thriving knowledge environment in business schools, the institutions need to look beyond technology and develop the overall culture of accessing, sharing and managing knowledge.

Research Design
Exploratory research design In-depth Unstructured interviews Sampling Unit: B-School Teachers Sampling Size: 14 Teachers

Conclusions
The B-Schools are being criticized on various aspects and they are increasingly facing a lot of challenges and opportunities in the global knowledge economy. The big issue is-how to compete in this changed scenario and take advantage of emerging opportunities. If the BSchools can continuously create new knowledge related to curriculum, customer needs, environmental changes, pedagogy etc; disseminate it continuously and effectively; and implement it properly than they can face the coming challenges of competitiveness in the global knowledge arena and play a big role in making India a global economic superpower.
