DEFINITION: Social
Media are primarily Internet and mobilebased tools and published media that allow us to communicate and build relationships with people in a variety of ways.

Social Networking is....

Social networking is the process of


initiating, developing and maintaining friendships and collegial or professional relationships for mutual benefit.

Examples of Social Networking Technologies

Text-messaging Online social networking communities, such as Facebook, Edmodo, Twitter, etc. Instant messaging, e.g. AIM, Google Chat, etc. Blogs (life-sharing, news analysis, and editorializing) (includes Twitter) Email (threaded discussions) Video conferencing & chat - Skype, Blackboard Collaborate, WiszQ, Adobe Connect, Google Video, etc. Document sharing and controlled collaborative authoring,
such as Google Docs

Wikis - easily editable web authoring sites Loosely structured collaborative authoring and information sharing, such as Wikipedia Photo sharing, such as Flickr, Picasa & Facebook Video sharing, such as YouTube, Schooltube, etc. Second Life - virtual worlds, a combination of many of
the above communication and collaborative tools

Internet to complete assignments. (96%)
