Fitting the Wireless Dongle

Some of the Projectors have the option of Wireless connectivity, in that case the Wireless Dongle is purchased separately and does not come with the Projector it will need to be fitted .

Networking is disabled by default; to enable networking: Ensure the Ethernet cable is plugged in Open the OSD menu and open the Set Up menu, scroll to the Wireless / Network option and press the button and then confirm.

With networking enabled to change settings: From the Set Up menu select the Wireless / Network menu and open by pressing the button
Note: if wireless is not supported, the menu item will be Network

Here you can set up all aspects of the cabled network (remember to store)

For these projectors networking is enabled by default. To change the default settings; Open the OSD menu and select Advanced Settings and either press the or the button to open.

Wireless Application
The Wireless application can actually be used with wireless or with cabled Ethernet. The Application allows: Splitting the projection in to 4 quarters to allow up to 4 separately connected computers to present at the same time. Allows a single computer to take control of the full projection space The application allows multiple computers to be managed for projection with the Conference Control feature (Part of the Web Manager package)

This interactive controller can be used as a limited remote control and /or as a pen, which can draw on the projected image. Powering On / Off the Projector

To Power on the projector: Ensure that the Power cable is plugged in to the mains and to the projector Turn the mains power is on if necessary (UK plugs). Ensure the Lamp cover has been removed Use the Power button on the remote or the control panel to start the projector To shut the projector down: Press and release the Power button on the remote or the control panel A message will appear to ensure it is your intention to shut down the projector. You need to press the power button again as confirmation Note: the projector will cool down after shut down has been initiated and during this period the projector can not be restarted takes about 2 minutes

Troubleshooting Projectors

Projector Troubleshooting can be split in to 5 main areas: Image related Issues Image is not displaying or displaying imperfectly OSD related Issues The OSD will not display Remote Control related Issues The Unit does not seem to work Lamp related Issues The system shuts down automatically Networking Network connectivity can not be established to the projector

Troubleshooting Process

Projector Troubleshooting can be performed easy if a process is used: Identify the fault Ask questions (what happened) Use indicators (What LEDs are lit) Test feature to ensure it is really faulty Replace faulty component (where appropriate) Test system to ensure the fault is fixed For image related issues, there is a built in test pattern utility that can be run from the Others submenu. Troubleshooting Image
Problem The screen does not display the presentation. The image is unstable or flickering. The image has a vertical flickering bar. Solution If you are using a portable computer, press Fn + F8. Adjust the tracking on the OSD Display submenu in the PC mode only. Adjust the frequency on the OSD Display submenu in the PC mode only.
If

the display receives the wrong signal output from the graphics card, set the signal type to RGB on the OSD Display tab. The image color is incorrect.
Use

Test Pattern on the Others menu. Ensure that the colors of the test pattern are correct. Adjust the focus ring on the projector lens. The image is out of focus. Ensure that the projection screen is within the required distance from the projector. The required distance is 3.94 ft (1.2 m) to 32.81 ft (10 m). The projector automatically detects the input signal format. It will maintain the aspect ratio of the projected image according to the input signal format with an original setting. If the image is still stretched, adjust the aspect ratio on the Set Up menu in the OSD. The image is reversed. Select Set Up from the OSD and adjust the projector mode.

Troubleshooting OSD / Remote Control

On Screen Display Issues


Problem The OSD does not appear on the screen. Solution Press the Menu button on the panel for 15 seconds to unlock the OSD.

Remote Control Issues


Problem The remote control is not operating smoothly or works only within a limited range. Solution The battery may be low. Check if the laser beam transmitted from the remote is too dim; if so, replace the AAA batteries.

Troubleshooting Lamp Issues


Problem The lamp is burned out or makes a popping sound. The lamp light is solid amber. Solution When the lamp reaches its end of life, it may burn out and may make a loud popping sound. If this occurs, the projector does not turn back on. You need to replace the lamp. If the lamp light is solid amber, replace the lamp. If the lamp light is blinking amber, the lamp module connection may be disrupted. Check the lamp module and ensure that it is properly installed. If the lamp and power lights are blinking amber, the lamp driver has failed and the projector will automatically shut down. The lamp light is blinking amber. If the lamp and temperature lights are blinking amber and the power light is solid blue, the color wheel has failed and the projector will automatically shut down. To clear the projection mode, press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds. The projector has overheated. The display automatically shuts down. Turn the display on again after the projector cools down. If the problem persists, contact Dell Inc.

The temperature light is solid amber.

The projector fan has failed and the projector will automatically shut down. Try to clear the projector mode by pressing and holding the Power button for 10 The temperature light is blinking amber. seconds. Please wait for about five minutes and try to power up again. If the problem persists, contact Dell Inc.

Additional - Troubleshooting Network Issues

Where Wireless is supported use the following as process to connect wirelessly when troubleshooting wireless connectivity issues.

Problem The wireless network is unable to connect.

Solution 1. Ensure that the antenna is connected to the projector. 2. Enable wireless connection on the projector. 3. Set the Input Select menu to Wireless / Network. 4. Take note of the LOGIN CODE, NETWORK NAME (SSID), and IP ADDRESS. 5. Connect your computer to the Dell projector network. 6. Open your internet browser. On the Dell Web Management web page, click Download. 7. Select the appropriate operating system, then click Download. 8. Click Run to proceed with the one-time installation of the software. 9. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup. 10. To communicate with your projector, enter the Login Code.

System will take some time to warm up for proper powering on. Projector in normal operation and OSD Menu not invoked. Ready to display image. System cooling for proper shut down. Projector takes 60 seconds to cool down before entering into Power Saving mode. Air vents might be blocked or ambient temperature over 35C. When this happens the projector will shut down. Replacing the Bulb

1. Turn off the projector and disconnect the power cord. 2. Let the projector cool for at least 30 minutes. 3. Loosen the two screws that secure the lamp cover and remove the cover. 4. Loosen the two screws that secure the lamp. 5. Pull up the lamp by its metal handle. 6. Replace with the new lamp. 7. Tighten the two screws that secure the lamp. 8. Replace the lamp cover and tighten the two screws. 9. Reset the lamp usage time by selecting "Yes" for Lamp Reset in the OSD Lamp tab. NOTE: the S500 uses the same process although the hardware and number of screws is different (shown on later slide).

1. A single external screw to be removed.

2. Slide the cover out to the left about 2 inches and the lift it to release.

3. Undo the 3 screws highlighted and lift the Bulb carrier using the metal handle.

Resetting the Bulb Timer


For the 1210S / 1410X / 1510X / 1610HD / 6410X / S300. When a Bulb is replaced a message should appear which allows the resetting of the Bulb timer. If the message does not appear or No is accidentally selected, follow the following steps to reset the Bulb Timer: 1. Bring up the On Screen Display (OSD) Menu 2. From this main menu, scroll to the Lamp icon and press the button

3. Scroll down to the Lamp Hour Reset option, press the button and then scroll left to highlight the yes option, now press the button to reset. A confirmation message may show, press the button again to confirm.

Resetting the Bulb Timer


For the 4220 / 4320 / S500. When a Bulb is replaced the resetting of the Bulb timer should be automatic, use the following steps to check and if necessary - reset the Bulb Timer: 1. Bring up the On Screen Display (OSD) Menu 2. From this main menu, scroll to Advanced and press the button

3. Select the Power Settings menu option and press the button, then select Lamp Hour Reset and press the button to reset.

Testing Networking
The projectors have built in DHCP services, the easiest way to test networking is to listed below To test the network port: 1.Disconnect the Projector from the LAN and plug directly in to the computer 2.Use the projector menu to ensure that networking is enabled and that DHCP is running and make a note of the IP address, the default is 192.168.100.10 Class C. 3.Using a standard or crossover cable, connect a computer directly to the projector to minimise the number of components in the troubleshooting loop. Ensure that the computers NIC is set to pick up DHCP. 4.On the computer, open a CMD prompt and Ping the projector IP address from the command line Ping 192.168.100.10 - If a reply comes back the network port is working successfully.

Updating Firmware

Firmware is generally used to fix issues and refine functionality of systems. On occasion troubleshooting may well lead to the need for a Firmware update. If there is firmware available for the projector, it should be updated using the Web Manager interface.

NOTE: It is important to disable and enable wireless/network using the OSD to restart the network card for the projector after firmware upgrade is successful.

Resetting Factory Defaults

This should not normally be necessary but, if there are problems with settings and changing the settings do not seem to take effect, it may be worth trying to reset the factory defaults.
