My media product is exclusively aimed at a teenage/post adolescent audience. Due to the nature media product the magazine I considered various aspect including selecting a name which best corresponds, and can be attributed to teenagers. These are the names I shortlisted: Epic Fresh Wild Debut Debut is a term which refers to the act of making a first appearance from reclusion. For example when a rising artist who performed locally or at events such as gigs with moderate audiences, become famous nationally as result of releasing a song that is then marketed by their management. Debut is a term that is typically used throughout the media to alert the market or consumers of new products, in many case being new singles or albums. Using the name debut will immediately make the audience associate the product with the act of revealing something which will put the media product in a better position as some potential customers will be curious to find out whether the term metaphorically refers to the magazines quality of having new content or information regarding new of interest in a every iss ue released. Most music fans will quickly jump to conclusion and immediately assume it is a music magazine because they are familiar with the medias way of often informing them about music products with debut. Furthermore, the term also promotes the magazines outlook as a new product on the market that will feature content distinct in many ways from popular existing products. The magazines will mostly feature rising artists which coincides with the name because the artists will only increase their fan base by releasing new content and debut will be a direct reference of doing that. This will attract more people because they will be receiving new content that interests them and features subjects who are new to the industry as opposed to already established ones.

I though I epic would be a good name for the media product because it is a word that is commonly used and has been in recent years, particularly by the younger generation. By using this name for the media product, the potential audience will almost likely recognise it and perhaps relate to it in some form or another. As the term is commonly associated with the younger generations, I think I corresponds with the target audience of the magazine as well. For this reason, once the media product is launched it will be easy to recognize as a distinct brand by members of the target audience. Teenagers are characterized as energetic, carefree individuals who's interests mostly revolve around doingg something fun. The term epic is moreorless a suited term associated with such activities and teenagers will immediately start to form ideas of what the media product may feature that interests them and their particular preference in content, whether that would be a certain music genre or a certain artist. Epic is something that would catch on quick and potentially become a major competitor in the market.

Alternatively wild was a name I considered for the magazine. My music magazine mainly features popular music which is hugely familiar with the masses or music consumer market. Wild would be a good name for the magazine because it is a term that could be attributed to younger so of audience whom the target audience predominantly consist of. The use of wild has all the connotations being projected in the magazine. For example, in recent years, popular music has developed into loud, energetic music, with party music being one of the most popular genres if not the one. And people who lead the party life style, attend live performances and concerts which are all considered fun activities can be characterized as wild. For this reason, I think Wild is an appropriate term to name the magazine because it coincides with the content featured in the music product of which the artists mostly release popular music. Fresh is a name that i considered for my media product. I thought the name would best represent the media product because the media product will be something new to the industry which predominantly caters for the popular masses. Although most media products aim to include content that should appeal to range of people of different ranges, the music industry happens to be dominated adults with most musicians being post adolescents. Fresh is a good name for the magazines because it directly infers that the media product is new, and distinct from the rest. My media product will mostly feature rising artists to promote it which coincides with the term because they too have not received the national interests as individuals who are already established in the music industry.

music magazine will comprise of four pages. The pages covered will be a front page, contents page, double page spread. The magazine will include information on the cover stars, which will include their recent activities and future events such as performing at concerts. The magazine will mainly consist of red, black and white which will make up the house style in order to promote a clear styles where the content on the pages easily contrasts against the background and other features. I think the colours will work well for the magazine style because the are bright, can vary and will help giver the pages a professional appearance similar to that of established media products such as vibe. This will also promote the magazine and attract potential reader as some of the colours such as red are obtrusive and eye catchy. I will use a variety of fonts in order to diversify the pages and maintain an interesting appearance as opposed to retaining one which the reader may find tedious. Key convention such as the masthead will often feature large, artistic bold text with colours adhering to the colour scheme. This will also apply to the cover artists in order to make them stand out. Various titles on the pages will feature varying colours appropriate and relevant for their purpose in order to maintain reader interest and make the product appear attractive. The main such as information located on the double page spread will have a column arrangement which will make it more convenient for the reader as they can anticipate the arrangement and read the information without potential confusion. Some of the information n the pages will also feature subheadings to signal the change of subject. The magazine will also incorporate additional colours besides those utilized for the house styles.

The purpose of the magazine is to provide the reader with music related content and recent information in music. The magazine will provide a mass audience an insight into their favourite musician with exclusive interviews carried out by the label. Additionally, it will also feature information on the artists recent and future activities such as upcoming concerts in which they are performing and their personal review of their performance and other events they attended. The magazines primary purpose if to immerse the audience into something they genuinely love and are interested in. Furthermore, the magazine will serve an advertising purpose. It will include such as alerting the reader on new albums or a single released by an artist, enticing adds stating the benefits of subscriptions, ticket sales and more. As the magazine is a new media product on the market, its primary aim is to increase i n popularity which translates to increasing their market share of the overall market. The magazine will also strive to get bigger which means reaching out to more artists to feature in the magazine. Additionally, the magazine is not intended to be exclusive to one particular music genre. For this reason, covering more genres in content and artist is one of the prominent aims for the med ia product in the efforts of truing to reach the diverse, wider market. Effectively, the aim is to develop the product into something that will appear distinct and established with an economical market share, while increasing in featured content and sources. The aim of the magazine is to also communicate to its audience in the a tone they can relate, while establishing a relationship of mutu al knowledge between the reader and the magzine. This will involve certain characteristic in the way the magazine conveys information such as referring to the audience through the use of pronouns such as You, or the use of exclamation marks to add emphasis in an excited tone. The magazine will presumably feature artist of different ages in order to promote appeal to a wider audience in terms of age.

Target Audience: The target audience of my media product will be fairly comprehensive with respect to age. It is intended to appeal to the younger generation such as teenagers and post adolescents hence the product widely featuring artists of different age range. The product is aimed at both genders male or female, observed in the range of artists featured in the magazine. The product will incorporate a diverse mix music genres in the effort of reaching out to more people of different preferences in music, including rock, country, rap, hiphop and popular music in general. Although the product will mostly feature popular music of which certain genres triumph from time to time, I think creating a product with a diverse mix in content will propel the product in attracting a variety of people with different preferences in music. This will inadvertently help the magazine in meeting certain aims such as increasing in popularity and establishing a good proportion of the market share in the industry.

Front page: the cover page will certainly feature a dominant image of the currently an immerging artist who will featured in the magazine. It will be conventional so in doing so the image will definitely feature dominant address which is a feature where by the subject looks straight into the camera, which gives the audience the impression the subject is specifically addressing them and what they are reading has been specially created for them and their interests. My product will not feature subsidiary images but will concentrate one central image. The front page will also have a large, bold masthead which will be easily noticeable and will grab a potential readers eye, drawing their attention to the product and perhaps wa nting to get an insight as to what content the product features. Like established media product, my magazine will also feature special features on the front page which are sections of information that briefly inform the audience of what the magazine will be featuring, An advert will also be place along the top third of the page which will inform the audience of the inherent discount that comes with their first ever purchase of the magazine. Additionally, the front page will also retain the house styles utilised in the magazine . Other features will include the use of a diverse range of text for different artists featured in the magazine. This is to increase the intricacy of the product while adhering to the selected style. This will also function as a means of suggesting to the audience that magazine comprise of a large range of content as opposed to using the same text style which will infer that the product is limited in content and will stick to a individual artist. It will feature a bar code which will allow the audience to purchase the products as news agent or outlets will be able to scan the products before proceeding with transactions. Contents page: The structure of my contents page will be linear, with content arrangement following a column arrangement which is typical of other established media products. It will also feature a image relating to a feature in the magazine such as an article. It will also features a dominant image which will also have the characteristic of direct address with the intention of establishing a relationship between the brand and the audience. Subsidiary images will also be included to function as additional promotional features for content featured in the magazine. Page numbers will be distinct and clearly contract against the clear background of the page with large figures clearly stating what page the description resides. The name of the magazine will also be clearly stated as well as the title of the page in large, bold text. Additionally, the page will also feature an add which may be in the form of subscriptions and the additional benefits of the package. It will also feature a editorial created by the editor to introduce the product to the customer. Double Page spread: The double page spread will have the overlapping feature which is a commonly used convention which articulates the wholeness of collection of the two pages. It will feature a dominant image which is related to the subject being discussed, who will be the artist. A brief interview will also be featured in the magazine which was conducted by the brand with the artist and will be exclusive to it. The main body text will be arranged into columns, similar to the contents page to make the page look neat and organising, as well as making it convenient for the audience to read as they will be able to anticipate where the text is leading. The clothes worn will be distinct from the house style, while contrasting well against the background. This will make the artist being discussed on the pages conspicuous as potential readers will inevitably get a glance upon opening the page. Like previous page, the double page spread will also adhere to the house style chose which will be made up of Red, black and white, with additional colours such as blue and pink to infer a change of subject. Conventionally, the page will feature an opening statement as the masthead, in bold conspicuous text, and a quote from the artist to add some humanity to it.

Tone: The tone of my magazine will be humorous, personal and informative. As a brand, I want the magazine to be able to connect with the audience at a personal level. For this reason, the mode of address will include certain characteristics such as the use of pronouns like YOU when referring to the audience. The magazine will also have a humorous element which is intended to maintain reader int erest as opposed to a dull magazine. Most importantly, I also want the product to be informative because I want my readers to go away satisfied, knowing they will purchase the next instalment from the brand. This is also for the purpose of promoting a relationship between the audience and the brand through raising mutual knowledge of each other.
Style: As my media product has a diverse target audience varying in age, I will utilize both element of formal and informal ways of conveying information. Due to the possibility of having adult reader I will use formal elements and will mediate between the use of language commonly associated with teenagers such as slang and a hint of maturity which will include the use of jargon and other characteristic associated with addressing adults. The tone will be cheerful as the magazine will project an energetic image of itself. This will be observed in the way the audience is addressed, the content and the general appearance of the product which will be light colours. The tone of my magazine will vary. The primary purpose of the magazine is to provide meaningful, entertaining content. For that reason the tone will be informative as the magazine will feature mostly music related new and content on artists, which most readers will be interested in finding out. Ill try to avoid making the product seem dull in mode of address by adding variations in tone whe re it will be occasionally humorous and as we as staying on a professional level. I have decided to employ this style because I want the audience to gain something from the information as well as enjoying reading the magazine. Layout: My magazine will have a linear layout. Text will follow a column arrangement will may be in columns of two or three at most. I will use bold font such as Perpetua Titling MT for descriptions on various locations of the magazine because it is easy to ready and has a sharp, edgy look to it which my design endorses. I have decided to have a white background because I want hte pages to look spacious, mimicking an appearance where the contents are cat outs of the page as opposed to embedded. This will make the features and various conventions of the pages stand out, and easy to take notice of by the audience. I have also chosen to add a dominant image on every page as a means of making the individual pages equally important and obtrusive to the audience all in the effort of sparking reader interests.

Effectively, I want my design to promote a bright, positive atmosphere. My magazine will predominantly feature rising artists who havent perhaps received the national attention as those who are already established. After conducting research, I found out the various conventions that help make media products successful and other features for the chosen target audience. Conducting the research provided me with the knowledge I needed regarding what I should incorporate in the product in order to find a unique selling point. This will inadvertently mean the magazine acquires some of the appealing features that have been designed around some of the conventions typically found in media products such as Q. One of the qualities I try to adhere to is the use of common conventions and making the most prominent one s such as the dominant image of the best quality, and standing out so that more people potentially take notice of the product when they visit an outlet such as a shop. My approach to the tone of the magazine is that of which is engaging. I try and keep to a tone that makes the reader feel part of it all or effectively a sense of belonging by addressing them using pronouns when necessary, some aspects of informality and areas where there its personal. The magazine also utilises a crisp appearance with the three key colours contrasting, against each other well but working well at the same time. These qualities make the product appear professional and promote the media product as a distinct brand amongst the many competing brands of the industry. Due to my magazine promoting rising artist, this will give it a competitive advantage because as time lapses and more people begin to take notice of the artists, it will happen to be my product who will have introduced them to the artist, and in doing so will have acquired long term customers or subscribers. This will gradually increase the brands market share as more people take interest in a brand that is not stagnated with the same dominating artists at a given period. This is the case for competition brands which increasingly feature the same artist because people lose interest and only stick to one brand if all brands are effectively releasing the same content. However, my brand will mostly feature artists who are not noticed yet, which tend to not be featured in established media products. This will give it a competitive advantage as it will be more likely to gain long term customers.

I feel my media product will appeal to the audience because it has all the necessary conventions and various aspects such as content and the appropriate approach in terms of mode of address, tone, style and lay out. Most importantly, the magazine features rising artists whom the brand feels have great potential in the music industry and will reach a critical point in popularity at the point they gain popularity. The magazine use colours which are appropriate for the varied target audience in terms of age. The house style comprises of Red, black, black and occasionally different colours to signal the change to a particular subject or artist. I have featured both male and female artists in the magazine in order to reach out to more people or a greater mix of genders. Additionally the colours are gender neutral and are not affiliated with a particular group so anyone and purchase the product depending on there preferences. The magazine has a fairly equal representation of males and females. The magazine is comprehensive in the way it covers music. It does not cover a particular music genre so people of all preferences are equally able to consume the product. Some of the challenges I foresee when making my magazine are choosing the correct images for the pages, some of the images that were intended for the pages may not work correctly and may need to be changed which could cause a lot of work wasting time and potential money. I also thing that inputting the correct amount of text without taking up all of the space but leaving enough space will be hard because I would like there to be enough detail in each paragraph but not too much to make reading the magazine boring. I will make sure that I chose good images and that there is a sufficient amount of text on the pages I design, doing this will make the magazines 100% better.

I will face certain challenges when developing my media product. It will be challenging to select the best image to place on a particular page because I lack knowledge in areas such as what message the subject may be trying to convey or how the image will represent the subject and the product itself. Some images will not work correctly for a selected page so i will have to refine the product over time to develop what I feel is best at a certain point. Also, adding the correct amount and type of content will be challenging because determining what the target audience wants is subjective and will mostly rely on personal opinion than authentic market research. This brings up the possibility of adding content that the majority may not necessarily find appealing which means my media product will not be successful if this turns out to be the case. I will also have to find a way to meet my aims in how I approach areas such as tone, style and lay out for example, what I perceive as humorous will not be the same case of the individual who purchases the product so I will have to carefully mediate between what I think works and what the vast majority typically consume.

The magazine will be developed in monthly instalments. This will provide enough time to obtain all the desired information of artists including things such as their recent performances and activities to incorporate into the product. This will also insure the magazine is distributed to outlets who will stock it on show to the public for purchase. At present, there will be costs involved in developing the product. I cannot quantify a specific figure, but various inherit costs will be part developing the product. For example, events such as organising interviews and photo shoots will require money as a professional photographer will be needed. Travel costs will also arise as artists featured in the product wont be in near by locations. Additionally, publishing will also costs as the brand will have to pay an industrial publisher to mass produce the product at a commercial scale. Other costs will also arise such as advertising, paying taxes and distributing the products. Time restraints will be addressed by organising key events such as photo shoots days or weeks in advance so I specifically know to fit the schedule around the particular day of the event. Also, communication methods such as using the internet or phone calls will be used to conduct discussions with the featured artist which will rule out the possibility of being unable to do the interview as a result of some spontaneous reason. Costs will either be met by retained profit made from previous instalments or acquiring a business loan from the bank.
