WAVE POWER
The transport of energy by ocean surface waves and the capture of that energy to produce electricity
TECHNOLOGY
Were basically talking about a technology that will be able to harness the enormous amount of mechanical energy in ocean waves and convert that into low-cost, reliable electricity
POWER BUOY
OPTs Power Buoy wave generation system uses a smart oceangoing buoy to capture and convert wave energy into low-cost, and clean electricity.
HOW IT WORKS
Wind blows across surface of the ocean Waves accumulate mechanical energy Rising and falling of waves cause buoy to move freely up and down Mechanical motion is converted through an electrical generator inside the buoy Generated wave power is transmitted ashore through an underwater power cable
BENEFITS
Powered by endless source of ocean waves Proprietary power storage and management system allows energy even when there are no waves Completely independent of shore power Environmentally benign Designed for long-term ocean survivability
GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES
Any area with yearly averages of over 15kW per meter (shown here) has the potential to generate wave energy at competitive prices.
