INDIAN INSTITUTE OF HEALTH MANAGEMENT RESEARCH, JAIPUR

The building of the IIHMR in Jaipur has been inspired by the traditional arts & crafts of the city. The architectural vocabulary is derived from the use of a variety of stones for masonry, paving, coping, flooring & pergolas in conjunction with slender precast elements It is located near the airport at Sanganer on the outer reaches of Jaipur. IIHMR is only one institute in India which devoted to research & training in the management of health systems. AR. Ashok Lall inspired by the traditional arts & crafts of Jaipur, the bldg. consists maximize use of local resources which results into cost saving project by reducing transportation. Use of passive architectural principles suitable to hot dry climate of Jaipur makes building Energy Efficient.

1 Site Planning
1. The natural topography of the land provided rationale for the site planning of the institute. The seasonal drainage channel was visualized as a leisure valley 2. Courtyards & terraces were ride the slopes & retain continuity with the land beyond the site 3. The seasonal drainage was visualized as a leisure valley. Courtyards & terraces were ride the slopes & retain continuity with the land beyond the site. 4. Low lying & less water starved land was become to parkland & the residential & institutional bldg. placed across it. The leisure valley was the point of attraction for community with stepped ghats, shade, flowers.

5. A bridge at the center of the site crosses the valley between two sets of bldg. A pathway at the eastern edge of

2 The Building envelope & planning Courtyard planning of individual clusters

The building has compact planning around the linked courts The nature of the courts determined by the analysis of the primary activities of the buildg Study court court for institute . :forming a community of scholars links to a college interaction between groups within the

Public court :study court links to a public court formed out of the spaces where institute communicates with world through exhibitions, conferences. Faculty court :which brings together research & administrative functions. The organization of faculty court allows a modular variation in the size & no. of rooms with removable partitions. Academic court :- designed on a grid, which permits the formation of variety of classroom sizes. In this area training functions are held. Residential court :- It expresses community. Two hostel courts

3 Window Design
The pattern of fenestration is

also coordinated with the planning grid. The windows are designed to reduce glare & provide natural daylight for workspaces & ventilation.

The small high-level glazing

panel provides more daylight at the back of the room having even illumination lvl across the depth of rooms.

The ventilator below window

sill serves a dual purpose, as a outlet for the stale air & as space provision for housing

4 Space Cooling
With exception of few AC rooms, all workspaces are served by a built -in evaporative cooling system which gives a high lvl comfort at very low cost for hot dry climate of Jaipur. The cooling plant & service cores are designed to ensure a noise & draught-free air cooling system. As Jaipur possesses one of the finest traditions of the craft of the buildg. The structure was based on load-bearing masonry construction. Expressive qualities stone its colour, texture, & exposed finish were tie together to give character to bldg which has low maintenance finish. Precast concrete jali, Terrazo plank . So by using locally available material & skills it becomes economical. & steel 1 AS structure is Load bearing ,it reduces the use of cement
