Deductive approach in teaching grammar can get straight to the point. It also allows the teacher to deal with language points as they come up, rather than having to anticipate them and prepare for them in advance. The disadvantage about the deductive approach is that grammar explanation encourages a teacher-fronted, transmission-style classroom and the students have little chance to practice using English. In inductive approach, students can focus on the use of the language without being held back by grammatical terminology and rules that can inhibit fluency. Thus, teachers can apply both approaches to meet lesson objectives, students needs and learning styles.
