Summary
Ten-year-old Leigh Botts likes to read, loves his dog, Bandit, enjoys writing and is frustrated every day when he finds food stolen from his lunch box. As part of a second-grade school assignment, Leigh writes a fan letter to a popular author named Mr. Henshaw. Leigh chose this author because he likes the man's book, Ways to Amuse a Dog.

In the fourth, fifth and sixth grades, Leigh continues to write to Mr. Henshaw. To Leigh's surprise, Mr. Henshaw writes back with advice about writing, relationships and getting to the bottom of the lunchbox thief.

JUSTIFICATION
Suitable for children age 9-10. Portrays emotion of joy, loneliness, longing and anger. Encourage writing and reading because the main character, Leigh Botts loves writing and he keeps a diary. Language is simple and new words can be understood within context. Attractive reading with the presence of a dog, Bandit, schools and teachers. Comes with moral values; love and honesty.

Summary
Abe Lincoln Grows Up is a biography. It presents the first twenty years of Lincoln's life, from his birth in a log cabin, through the migrations of the Lincoln family in search for a better life. It is about a boy born and raised in poverty, with many hardships and very little formal education, struggles to make something of himself. Although the story ends just as Lincoln leaves home, all readers know that he is destined to become one of the best known and most loved presidents of the United States.

JUSTIFICATION
Suitable for children age 9-11. This biography offers an outstanding depiction of American frontier living, describing the wilderness, the farms, and the settlements which the children can relate to or learn something new. It also portrays emotion of joys and sorrow of a child (character Abe Lincoln). Following Lincoln down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers on a flatboat to New Orleans, the reader also glimpses the world beyond the frontier.

Children are curious to learn new things in life and if grown-ups pave the path of learning more smoothly by using attractive stories, the stories which are not against human clean nature but convey a moral or real good experience of the past. Moral values: Determination, Love.

Summary
The story depicts the adventures of Lyra Belacgua, an orphan living in a parallel universe on a world that looks much like our own. In Lyra's world, a dogmatic ruling power called the Magisterium is conspiring to end tolerance and free inquiry. Poor, orphan and Gyptian children are disappearing at the hands of a group the children call the Gobblers. Rescued by the Gyptians, Lyra joins them on a trip to the far north in search of the missing children.
