Boiler Construction

As per IBR regulations 1950. Heating surface area- 148 m2 Water holding capacity- 12 m2 Overall length- 5.5 m Shell diameter- 2.4 m Corrugated furnace diameter- 1.12 m

Material of construction
Shell & furnace plates- SA 515/516 Gr 70 CS pressure vessel plates for medium & high temperature service. Plain & stay tubes- confirming to BS 3059 Valve body _ carbon steel WCB with flanged end connections. Fusible plug- Alloy comprising of Tin, Lead & antimony

Boiler mountings

Water gauge glasses mountings- consists of steam side cock & water side cock, level glass, protector & drain lines. Pressure gauge- Bourdon pressure gauge 10 dia. dial with a range: 0-25 Kg/cm2 Safety valves 40 x 80: spring loaded full lift safety relief valve- 2 Nos. Feed check valve- plate type mounted on feed pump discharge Main steam stop valve- Globe type mounted on boiler drum

Blow down valve Parallel sliding type mounted at bottom line from boiler Air vent valve- Globe type mounted on top of boiler drum Fusible plug- 2 Nos. of small welded fitting filled with low melting temperature alloy, one mounted on reverting chamber another at end plate on top of smoke tubes at 2nd 3rd pass junction chamber. Man hole- mounted on top of shell Mud hole- at bottom of shell.

Accessories continued . Oil preheating unit- Dual operated with electrical & steam oil pre_heater with shell & tube type heat exchanger Oil pre_filter- Bucket type filter with a standby Burner assembly- pressure jet type burner with auto regulating arrangement to meet load requirement. Modulating unit- Step less modulating unit with a turn down ratio of 4:1 regulating the air fuel requirement of various load requirement

by Mobrey unit High pressure switch- Sensing the steam pressure inside the boiler and trips the firing at the set pressure. Flame failure sensor- a photo cell unit mounted on the burner assembly, cut off the fuel supply in absence of no flame High flu gas temperature- cut off Low oil temperature- cut off Flue gas outlet damper closed- cut off by limit switch

Fuel oil Specification

Furnace oil confirming to IS 1593-1988 grade MV-2 Calorific value 9600 Kcal/ Kg (approx) Kinematic viscosity @ 15o C -125 180 cSt. Kinematic viscosity @ 100o C <12 cSt. Flash point- 66o C Pour point- 25o C Composition- C- 82-85%, H2- 10-13%, S- 4% (max), Moisture< 1% by volume, sediment< 0.25%

Water Quality Requirement As per IS 10392-1982


Feed water requirement: Total hardness 10 mg/l max pH value- 8.5 to 9.5 Dissolved oxygen- .1 mg/l max. Boiler water requirement: Total hardness Not detectable pH value- 11.0 to 12.0 Total alkalinity- 700 mg/l max. Caustic alkalinity- 350 mg/l max. Residual sodium sulphite 30 50 mg/l Phosphates as (PO4) 20-40 mg/l
