business processes to be undertaken for continuous improvement.
FICCI CE

• To identify the process or product for improvement.

• To develop an action plan.
FICCI CE
Criteria for selection

In general, any process you choose to improve should be:

• A process that is important to meeting your customers requirements and / or
• A process that is critical to the successful achievement of your
organizations goals.
FICCI CE
Measure

This phase involves selecting product characteristic, mapping respective

process, making necessary measurements and recording the results of the
process. This is essentially a data collection phase.
FICCI CE

Objectives of Measurement phase

• Collect baseline performance data for identified projects.

• Understand current problems.
FICCI CE

Analyze

In this phase an action plan is created to close the “gap” between how things
currently work and how the organization would like them to work in order to
meet the goals for a particular product or service.
FICCI CE

Objective of Analysis phase

• The objective of this phase is to study the current processes in terms of what?,
who?, how?, when? and where?.
• To establish an improvement goal or the performance objective.

characteristics for achieving desired results and goals. This phase involves
application of scientific tools and techniques for making tangible
improvements in profitability and customer satisfaction.
FICCI CE

Objectives of Improvement phase

• To develop a proposed solution to the existing problems.

• To confirm that the proposed solution will meet the desired quality
improvement goals.
• To identify resources required for successful implementation of the
solution.
• To plan and execute actual improvements.
FICCI CE
Control

monitored. This phase requires institutionalizing SMAIC into day to day
working of the organization. In this phase the gains derived by certain specific
projects are applied to the other projects as well for optimum business results.
FICCI CE

Objectives of control phase

• To ensure that our processes stay in control after the improvement solution
has been implemented and

• To quickly detect the out of control state and determine the associated
causes so that actions can be taken to control the problem before non-
conformances are produced.
