BCMS Enrichment

Program Orientation

What is an Enrichment Program?
•School - wide program
• Offers students opportunities to
pursue interests and knowledge
beyond essential curriculum.
•Takes place both in and outside
of regular classes
• May involve large groups or 1-2
people.
•Might be one lesson or an on-
going project lasting several days
/months
The Enrichment program is available to
all students. It is targeted to students
who are
• Creative
• Interested
• Self - Motivated
• Committed to
tasks
• Earning above-
average grades
in classes
All students will be involved in BEST
Extensions this year on B Days for
enrichment
• What will you choose??
Some students will participate in
Advisory Enrichments on A
days.
Teachers will select students for
these enrichment sessions based on
class performance /grades.
Some Examples of Enrichment
Projects are:

• Starting or
joining a New
Club
Designing and completing a Service-
Learning project to benefit others
These 6th
graders
raised
money to
help save
Polar Bears
Visiting a Museum
The 6th grade
Newspaper
Team visits
the Newseum
in
Washington,
D.C. last
spring.
Entering a Contest
During the year, several contests
will be announced which allow
students to win prizes for their
talents.
•Poetry, Essays, Creative Writing,
Posters, & Inventions
Check out the Contest Board outside
of Rm. 159
Participating in a special fitness
fund-raiser
Joining a Research or Creative
Problem - Solving Team

These
students begin
preparation
for their
Destination
Imagination
Creative
Problem
Solution
Competing in a Geography Bee or
another type of Academic
competition
Sponsored by National Geographic, the BCMS
Geobee is held in Dec. / Jan. for interested
students.
Making the world a better place

These
Science
students
plant trees
to improve
the water
quality of
the
Chesapeake
Bay
Learning about a Career from an
expert
Participating in a Debate
Researching on the Internet
Learning a new skill
Creating something you never
thought possible
Taking Science one step further by
completing a Science Fair Project
Or just getting drenched
