a. Communication (from Latin "communis", means to share) is the activity of conveying information through the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, visuals, signals, writing, or behavior. b. Communication is a core element to society's foundation. Communication is used in families, amongst friends, in schools, and in government.

a. Communication technology facilitates communication between individuals or groups who are not physically present at the same location. Systems such as telephones, telex, fax, radio, television, and video are included, as well as more recent computer-based technologies, including electronic data interchange and e-mail. b. The advancement of technology has helped to advance the ways in which we communicate with each other. C. These devices have helped to make communication more accessible and convenient.

TECHNOLOGY
Communication technology is range of technologies used for gathering, storing, retrieving, processing, analysing, and transmitting information. This includes personal computers, mobile phones, the internet etc.

In comparison to computer and internet, electronic typewriter is relatively old but still used in lot of small business concerns. In fact it is a typewriter which has memory. The matter is displayed in a small monitor before printed on a peper.

COMPUTERS
Perhaps changes in business communication most influenced by the emergence of computer. Computer is a electronically device which can perform the task of wordprocessing. In short computer plays vital role in business communication

CD-ROM
In the field of electronically invention CDROM is a new addition. It is a compact disk which can be read by a computer. The main advantage of CD-ROM is it can contain huge amount of data. Thus analytical reports and larger volume reports can be sent in written form by CDROM.

FAX
It is a communication device through which picture of the original document can be transmitted within few seconds. Here both sender and receiver need to have FAX machine.

CHAT SYSTEM
By chat system concerned parties can share ideas, regarding business matters.

One of the major advantages of chat system is, it can store the dialogues of all members which can be reviewed by other team members who were not present during the chat.

E-mail
Electronic mail (E-mail) means sending of messages through electronic network. Here messages are written in a computer but send through satellite. Sender must have receiver's e-mail address to send e-mail.

INTERNET
It is a large computer network which connects may peoples throughout the world. It is a universal communication media through which FAX, voice mail, and any written documents can be transmitted.

Land telephones are most common device that used in all modern offices. It is time and cost saving. Even after the invention of mobile phones it has its own importance in the field of business communication.

Mobile phones are the latest addition to the technologies used for business communication. Now managers can keep touch with the organization even remaining out of the work station.

VOICE MAIL SYSTEM


Voice mail is like e-mail but here user does not need to have a computer. Voice mail sends verbal messages to any number of mail boxes. It can make employees more efficient.

VOICE CONFERENCE
In this system telephone conversation shared among several individuals through networked, computers or through internet. It facilitates decision making and implementation of decision.

VIDEO CONFERENCE
Videoconferencing is the conduct of a videoconference (also known as a video conference or videoteleconference) by a set of telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to communicate by simultaneous two-way video and audio transmissions. It has also been called 'visual collaboration' and is a type of groupware.

Pros & Cons of how technology is affecting communication today?


Pros:
- Reach most friends, family and business contacts in seconds. - Develop a business line without needing a real office. - Fast development and less time to market. - Lower prices on communications to consumers. - Real time interaction with other information systems. - Home and daily tasks automation. - Asking questions with a million people willing to help out.

CONS
- No reliable trusted sources. Information might not be accurate. - Communicating over a distance might degrade the human approach to relations. - The mind has become lazy, not reading the entire page but going straight to the interesting part. - Reduced privacy. - A faster world based on technology reduces the amount of time to be with ourselves.

CONCLUSION
The world of communication is one of the most important spheres which has gone through a revolution with the boon of technology. Technology has given us unlimited means of communication with various advantages.
