Overall Function: A physically connected network of
cells, tissues, and the organs that controls thoughts,
movements, and the simpler life processes such as
swallowing.

How the Nervous System
• works
The Nervous and Endocrine Systems let you respond a stimulus in your
environment and maintain Homeostasis. A stimulus is anything that
triggers a change in an organism. Change that can be chemical, cellular, or
behavioral
Your Nervous System works quickly and controls immediate processes, such as
heart rate and breathing. For Example, if you touch a hot stove, an immediate
response from the nervous system causes you to take your hand out, without a
quick reaction your hand will be badly burned.
Signals move from the skin on your hand to the muscle in your
arm by passing through the two parts of the nervous system,
central and peripheral. Central Nervous System (CNS) includes
the Brain and The Spinal Cord. The Peripheral Nervous System
is a network of nerves that transmits messages to CNS and
the PNS to other organs in the body.
1. The Midbrain controls
some reflexes, such as
changing the size of the
pupil and to control the
amount of light entering
the eye.
2. Pons regulate
breathing, passes signal
from brain to the spinal
cord.
3. The Medulla Oblongata
connects the brain to the
spinal cord, it controls
basic life functions such
as heart, vomiting,
swallowing, and
coughing.
The Brain stem connects the brain to the Spinal Cord and
controls the most basic activities required for life such as
breathing and heart beat. Midbrain, pons, and medulla
oblongata are the brain’s three major parts.
