PD 603 - CHILD AND YOUTH WELFARE ACT Art. 77. Parent-Teacher Associations
Every elementary and secondary school shall organize a parent-teacher association for the purpose of providing a forum for the discussion of problems and their solutions, relating to the total school program. All parents in the efficient implementation of such program. All parents who have children enrolled in a school are encouraged to be active members of its PTA, and to comply with whatever obligations and responsibilities.

What is the policy of the DepEd on PTAs? The Department of Education strongly encourages and supports the organization of PTAs to ensure the welfare of the pupils/students.

What is the tenure of office of a PTA officer?


One (1) year but not exceeding two (2) consecutive terms in the same position (lame provision) It is PTA by-laws that is controlling

What are the requirements for the recognition of a PTA?


Formal notification in writing by the Board of Directors; Oath of office of the Board of Directors and Officers including a list Directors and members

Who is empowered to recognize and accredit the PTA?

What kind of collections may the PTA undertake?


Membership dues Other voluntary contributions

Is the PTA entitled to an office in the school?


Yes, IF there is an available space within the school campus as DETERMINED BY THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL.

What are the conditions set before teachers may become members to the PTA? Not more than 50% of the PTA membership Only as members of the board and as secretary

What are the rules on PTA collections?

What are the effects of violations by the PTA?

Selling insurance, pre-need plans or similar schemes or programs to students/pupils and/or their parents Operating a canteen/school supplies store, or being a concessionaire thereof inside the school or nearby premises, or offer these services to the school as its client either directly or indirectly Engaging in any partisan political activity, specifically within the school premises; and Interfering in the academic and administrative management and operations of the school and of the DepEd in general.

What are prohibited acts of the school officials?


Directly interfering in the internal affairs of the PTA.
