Future cities will be
digital marketplaces
Sensors will be everywhere
Data will be pervasive & open
Services will consume data
Open questions
How does distribution work?
Who will deliver the services?

Data distribution in the
future city
Data will be distributed by
Data producers? < BUT each has a limited catalogue
Cities? < need developer engagement plan & resource
Aggregators < can gather, validate and scale
Aggregators will be the new distributors
Digital service delivery
in the future city
Digital services could be delivered by
Data producers? < BUT cannot know business cases
Cities? < Need to create/procure a platform at cost
App developers? < can design, deliver and monetise
App developers will deliver the digital services
Open transport data

data in 2010 (thanks Boris!)
Dept. of Transport then supported Traveline to
release bus data across the country in 2012
Network Rail released all train data in 2013
Many other providers have released data
http://transportapi.com/ has data for 360,000

It's designed for transport planners and other
professionals in the industry to get a mix of anecdotes and
incident data for specific places. For the rest of us, it's a
gold mine of schadenfreude and witticisms.
