BASIC LENS ACTION
The lens works by refracting or bending light beams.
Refraction occurs because light travels slower in the dense glass
medium.

Focal Length - A measurement expressed in millimeters. It is the distance
from the optical center of the lens to the front of the imager sensor.

FIELD OF VIEW
The field of view (FOV) and lens magnification are based on the focal
length of the lens.

Shorter the focal length, the FOV increases and the magnification
decreases.

SPHERICAL & ASPHERICAL LENSES
Spherical lenses are designed such that light passing through the glass
is refracted and it crosses an axis for prime focus.
Spherical aberration occurs when light rays from outer edges are
refracted more than those that pass near the center of the lens.

Allow correct refraction from outer edge of the lens enabling a wider
aperture and the camera to operate in lower light conditions.

1080p camera: Big Capabilities Reveal Small Details

Great for installation which requires the highest possible HDTV resolution and
incredible details when zooming in, in e.g. critical infrastructure, public safety, law
enforcement, transportation, government, utilities, health care, education / colleges,
casinos and retail.

Wide Dynamic 720p camera: Details in Challenging Conditions

Perfectly suited for monitoring of entrances, buildings with large windows , warehouse
bay doors, tunnel passages and vehicle headlights, in e.g. financial institutions,
education / colleges, airport, train stations, underground parking entrances,
government and city surveillance applications.

-Many opportunities in all market i.e. Consider all...
- but today we will focus on the following;
117
File Number
Latest IMS report suggests cameras of 1Megapixel or more resolution now make up 75% of total network
camera sales in EMEA and growing 33% per annum
Market demands extremely crisp images at minimal bandwidth :
Video security applications often require placing security cameras in areas where critical clear, sharp images
are required. Examples include:
Where the subject facial features is required to make a positive identification
Where a recording of a license plate is required
Able to identify if the subject is a threat or a non threat?
1080p resolution enables the camera to deliver clear object recognition when zoomed in enabling the
operator to see clear recording events for use as evidence and to inform investigations
The real value of 1080p resolution allows customers to digitally zoom in for superior detail, or cover nearly
three times the horizontal area, reducing costs by requiring fewer cameras for the same area

-Why is WD IP important?
Latest IMS report suggests WDR now makes up 25% of total network camera sales in EMEA
and growing 33% per annum
Video security applications often require placing security cameras in areas with difficult lighting
conditions. Examples include:
Where the subject is positioned against strong back lighting such as a heavily windowed storefront
Areas where there are abrupt changes in illumination like an entryway
Where the lighting conditions are reversed, such as looking from a well lit area into a darker area
Wide Dynamic enables the camera to deliver video with near perfect exposure in the harshest of lighting
conditions enabling the operator to see clear recording events for use as evidence and to inform investigations
The real value of Wide Dynamic Technology is the amount of usable image you see no mater the lighting
conditions (see below examples)

CPU Module (P/N: HVBNET16CPU)
This Controller is a Matrix controller and a 16 Channels Titled Output card.
VideoBloX system is controlled from a single master CPU module.
CPU module manages the operation of all modules installed into a chassis or sub-
chassis.
- Uses the Honeywell NetCore running on Embedded Linux OS which brings
TCP/IP connectivity and Flash memory.
- 10/100 base T Ethernet LAN connectivity & firmware can be upgraded via
network.
Can be set either for NTSC or PAL by DIP switch
High speed processor, Power monitor and watchdog circuitry
Four serial ports for communication and control.
All system configuration is carried out by a PC running Windows XP or indows 7
which is connected to the CPU module.
- Once configuration is complete the PC maybe disconnected or used as a
system activity logger.

MAXPRO-Net Introduction
Honeywell Video Systems has acquired two of the most robust matrix switches available in the global marketplace.

Acquired by Honeywell

With two of the most powerful matrix switches in the product lineup, Honeywell had some decisions to make.
Analysis were made of both product lines and it was determined the best matrix switch would actually be a hybrid
of the two lines. The CPU and software from the MaxPro line were paired with the video switching chassis and
cards from the VideoBloX line. Peripheral control has been maintained for both lines to allow flexibility and long
term maintenance options for existing customers.

Unlocking the Power of Video Surveillance
Limitations include:
Huge Expense: very labor intensive.
False Alarms: false alarm rates over
90% are standard.
Information Overload: Operators
struggle to find the relevant Information.
Missed Security Events: human error
leads to large numbers of missed
important security threats.
Recent events have increased security needs at all levels
Current CCTV installations provide base levels of video surveillance

Limitations of Human Monitoring

The Harvard Experiment showed that:
50% of people counting passes made between two basketball teams will
not notice a gorilla walk into the middle of the viewing area, beat its
chest and walk out.
Harvard Human Attentiveness Study
In another study, military surveillance experiments demonstrated that:
After 12 minutes of continuous viewing of 2 or more sequencing
monitors,
An operator will miss 45% of all scene activity.
After approximately 22 minutes,
An operator will miss 95% of all scene activity.
The conclusion is clear:
Humans do not reliably detect security threats, whether watching live
video or reviewing archived data, resulting in false conclusions that
nothing occurred when, in fact something did (referred to as false
negatives).
SecurityOz Oct/Nov 2002
197
File Number
The 3 Paradoxes of Video Surveillance
1. Adding more cameras will proportionally increase my level of security.
FALSE: In fact if you cannot detect real threats, in real time, you have not
increased your ability to detect incidents.
2. Outdoor video motion detection (VMD) is reliable
FALSE: VMD alarms on everything that moves.
3. Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) Virtual Guard Tours greatly increase my level of security.
FALSE: PTZ/VGT actually can decrease event detection due to the large blind
spot existing at any given time.

More Cameras Do NOT Mean Increased Security
The problem is simple: there are too many cameras, too few pairs of eyes to keep track of
them. And besides being a tedious task, watching TV monitors also demands a higher
level of concentration than many people cannot manage.
New Scientist (UK) 11 J uly 2003

Why Your Customers Need Active Alert
Surveillance systems with dozens or hundreds of cameras become difficult to
manage.
Current CCTV provides base levels of video surveillance.
Operators struggle to identify the relevant information
Human error leads to routinely missed critical events
4 Studies show that operator fatigue occurs in <30 min.

How Active Alert Will Increase the True Level of Security
Monitor more cameras, more effectively, with fewer operators, for less cost.
Works with virtually any existing CCTV cameras, Windows / Linux Platforms,
or recording technology.
Detect, classify, track, and alarm on specific BEHAVIORS or EVENTS that
matter not on everything that moves.
Enables even CCTV installations without monitoring centers to remotely
alert on incidents in real-time.
