Data Base

A database is a collection of data (or facts) that are logically
organized. Some examples of databases you may encounter in your
daily life are:

A Database is a collection of integrated data organized as bytes,
fields, records and files.

Generally used Database in our daily life
Telephone
T.V. Guide
Airline reservation system
Papers in your filing cabinet
Files on your computer hard drive

DBMS (Database Management System)
Database management system is a program that lets one or
more computer users create and access data in a database.

Example: Access, FileMaker, Oracle or SQL Server

Byte
Byte: A byte consists of 8 bits.

Field: A collection/combination of
byte/character

Bit: A binary digit is called bit/units of byte is
called bit.

Record: A complete set of field is called record.
(Each rows represent a record)

File: A collection of some records is called file.

Information System
An information system is a set of people, procedures and
resources that:
Collect

Stores

Retrieves

Transform

Disseminates

Information is an organization and provides feedback to meet
an objective.

Information is used for better management

(Output)- Finally feedback

Input, Processing, Output, Feedback

Input: Activity of gathering and capturing raw data

Processing: Converting or transforming data into useful
outputs

Output: Production of useful information, usually in the form
of documents and reports.

Feedback: Output that is used to make changes to input or
processing activities.

Information Technology
The hardware, software, and networks that make information
systems possible.
Major activities of information technology are:
It can make raw data into meaningful and useful information

It can recycle processed information and use it as data in
another processing step.

It can package information in a new form which is easier to
understand and is more attractive or more useful.

Components of Information System
Hardware: Your PC (Personal Computer) is a system,
consisting of many components. Some of those components,
like Windows XP, and all your other programs, are software.
The stuff you can actually see and touch, and would likely
break if you threw it out a fifth-story window, is hardware.
Software: Software means computer instructions or data.
Anything that can be stored electronically is software, in
contrast to storage devices and display devices which are
called hardware.

images, animation, Sounds, and any other medium where every
type of information can be represented ,stored, transmitted and
processed digitally.
